In 1855, Depew, New York had its first gun store. The store was operated by the depew Rifle and Pistol Company. The company imported and sold firearms to the local farmers and hunters. In 1861, the company merged with another gun store in Depew, forming thedepew Gun & Ammo Company. Through the years,Depew has been a major center for firearm sales in western New York. In 1967, Depew became a city of commerce and began to sell firearms through City Hall. Today,Depew is home to one of the largestgun stores in upstate New York as well as several antique shops that specialize in firearms from around the world. Depew is a small town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is the borough seat of West Seneca. The first settler in what would become Depew was James Kapp in 1824. He and his family came from Hamburg, Germany and landed on Staten Island. They supplemented their income by farm work until they decided to move to what is now Depew in 1828. Jens Lehmann founded the local sawmill in 1830 and enlarged it with an addition of a gristmill in 1838. The community acquired its present name of Depew when John Wetherbee donated two tracts of land to the town for municipal use in 1852. The first post office was established at Depew on October 15, 1853, under the name "Holland". It was renamed "West Seneca" on November 3, 1865; and finally "Depew" on December 13, 1888. The current post office building was built between 1916-1918 as part of a expansion project for the village center which included several blocks of housing constructed around a large square central plaza that served as both commercial and civic center. Depew's rich history can be found throughout its various forms: early settlers named their property after themselves or their families (e.g., Kapp), while later residents developed businesses within the community or within neighboring villages such as Holland or West Seneca (all three being former towns consolidated into one municipality). Some of these businesses still operate today including JP&J Leather Works Inc., Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Food Lion/PepsiCo Supermarket & Grist Mill #7 seed store, Applebees Restaurant & Tavern, and depewsweetz bakery! The Village Center also houses several schools including Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic School District No 2 which serves students grades PreK-12th; St John's Lutheran School District No 1 which offerselementary through 12th grade; Immaculate Conception Episcopal Church - Parish Hall which provides worship services for all ages;St Dominic High School - Weingarten Middle School - Grades 7-9th; Holy Cross Catholic High School - Science/Technology Academy serving grades 10-12th along with many other public and private elementary schools located throughout Townlimits

A few weeks ago, I visited Depew, New York for the first time. I had always heard of it; however, I never really knew what it was. When we arrived in town, the first thing that caught my eye was the impressive depository building on Main Street. It looked like something out of a movie! The building is actually from 1825 and served as home to several banks and other businesses before becoming a depository for US currency. It played an important role in New York’s history and still remains one of the most iconic landmarks in town. I also enjoyed browsing through the local history archives at the library. There are many interesting pieces about Depew dating back to its early days as a village. The ongoing construction of Interstate 5 next to it has unfortunately caused some damage to the old buildings, but they still have plenty of interesting artifacts left over!

Depew was a small village in the town of Scranton,now a part of Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre, PA. It was founded by Nicholas Depew in 1789 and had a post office from 1816 until 1871. The population was about 375 at the time of its incorporation as a village. It became an unincorporated community after that date.
