Depew is a small town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 5,851 at the 2010 Census. It is situated on the southern end of the Town of Oswego and between Rome and Auburn on the east side of the Niagara River. The name Depew comes from Dutch settlers who named it Deperew after their leader De Pauw. The first settler in what is now Depew was Nicholas Tompkins, who arrived in 1785. He built a cabin near present-day Depew Lake. In 1802, John Prentice established a gristmill in what is now part of Depew Village; he also operated an sawmill and a blacksmith shop. By 1810, there were nine families living in Depew Township. In 1825, General Peter Herkimer founded the village of Auburn on land that he had purchased from Mathias de la Fayette for $200 dollars. After several years of growth and development by her residents and businesspeople, Auburn reached its peak as a commercial center during the mid-19th century with many stores and businesses along Third Avenue south of Central Park (now Albany Street). However, as economic conditions deteriorated throughout much of America during this period, Auburn began to decline rapidly around 1830; within five years it had disappeared altogether from local listings among villages with similar populations that still existed more than 150 years later! A few residents did manage to keep pace with changing times however: Jacob Sutherlin ran an agricultural store until his death in 1865; Edward Ager bought two hundred acres (120 hectares) north of town beginning farming operations in 1870; Moses Levy founded an ice cream factory just outside town limits in 1895 which remains active today as Levy's Dairy & Ice Cream Company Inc.; Anna Seward managed one house while living inside town limits before moving out into her own home within two decades following her husband’s deathbed instruction to do so; finally George Barger opened up his garage door service around 1925 which continues operating today as GABARGER SERVICE CORP.,Inc.. All these businesses are still functioning today thanks to their continuous reinvestment over generations!

Depew was a town in the Hudson Valley of New York State and is now a census-designated place. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Adirondacks region. The first settlers in Depew were farmers who arrived in 1795 from Canada. They founded a small town on the north side of creek that later became known as Depew Lake. In 1824, they sold their holdings to the United States government for use as military reservations. From here, American soldiers marched into battle during the Revolutionary War and George Washington's inauguration. In 1836, when General John Armstrong took possession of Deer Park Reserve, he ordered all residents to leave their homes and move west on Indian Road to take up land offered them by General Montgomeryusky and other Native Americans. Most Depews did not want to leave their homes; some were forcibly taken by cavalry under Armstrong's orders. Some people did manage to escape but many died from exposure or hunger while trying to flee westward. In 1847, Joseph Halsey purchased 8 acres (3 ha) northeast of present day Depew from James Doherty for $1 million dollars which he used as his estate until his death in 1896 In 1865, Alfred Payson Phelps bought 1/4 acre (0.16 ha) northwest ofdepew center from Isaac Hecker for $2 – $2 sharecroppers paid annually rent for this land around threshing machines called "Phelps' cows" until 1948 when it reverted back to its original owner with an annual payment plan that ended in 1978 There are still evidence left behind today including remnants of threshers found near Phelps' farmstead dating back to before 1800 AD
In 1764, Depew was born in the town of Fordham, New York. He was a farmer and joiner until his death in 1839. He is buried in the old graveyard in the town of Depew.
