Depew is a small town in the Erie County of New York, located on the southern shore of Lake Erie. The population was 3,851 at the 2010 census. It lies within the limits of Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village dates back to 1786 when land was bought by Nicholas Depew from the Seneca Nation and developed as a tiny hamlet on the banks of Genesee River. In 1814, depew became one of three towns in what is now Erie County when it amalgamated with other villages in that area including Rome and Salamanca. The name Depew comes from Dutch Despot (the deputy). Today, depew remains an agricultural community with farmers raising hay, corn, oats, potatoes and apples; however, there are also some small businesses and a few apartment buildings scattered throughout the village. There is also a library which opened its doors in 1903. According to the 2016 Census estimate*, nearly 60% of residents age 25 or older identify themselves as white while less than 10% identify themselves as black or African American* making it one of reversely stratified United States communities – fourth behind only Brookline (Massachusetts), Arlington Heights (Chicago) and Waltham ( Massachusetts). Meanwhile Hispanics make up about 12%, Asians 5%, Native Americans 2% and others 1%.

Depew, New York is a small town located in the Hudson Valley of New York State. The population was 5,821 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was first settled by Germans in 1795 and named for Depew Creek which flows through it. The town was incorporated on April 14, 1834. In 1837, it became the terminus of a rail line running from Buffalo to Niagara Falls. The town post office closed on December 31, 1966. The village has been renovated several times over the years and today includes a community center with a library, an art gallery, and two restaurants. It also contains a few residential properties as well as an open-air Market Place where local businesses sell food and items from around the area. Depew is known for its lace production which began in the early 19th century and continues to this day. Lace production takes place at various locations within the town including Knob Hill lace factory which opened in 1846 and still produces lace products today; hillside mills which produce flour for breadmaking; Weaver’s Mills; Whitehead’s Cement Company (now part of Alliance Data Systems); depew Paper Mill; Mohawk Lumber Company (now part of Republic Services) - all located within one kilometer of each other; and finally, Depew Glass Factory which produced glass products until 1984 when it closed down due to competition from abroad.
Depew was a Village in the Town of Westmoreland, New York within the limits of the City of Buffalo. It was founded in 1824 by John Depew and his wife Sarah, from what is now part of the town of Elmira. It changed its name to Depew afterDepew Creek, which ran through it. The creek was named for John depew who gave it to the village. In 1829,depew formed a post office with three others: Deer Park (now part of Elmira), Canandaigua and Rome (now part of Niagara Falls). The village had two schools: one for children and one for adults. A gristmill also operated inDEPEW until 1840 when it became an flour mill owned by Elisha Richardson. In 1870,the village passed into private hands and discontinued operation although there were some brief moments when it functioned as a town before being annexed by Buffalo in 1898. Today only fragments remain from depews vanished years ago
