As Cortland, New York residents know, the town was home to one of the largest optical businesses in the country for over a century. The name "Cortland" is first mentioned in 1292 as "Cortunis". The original optical business was located on Main Street and it operated from 1828-1851. In 1851, the business moved to what is now the corner of West Genesee and East Erie Streets and continued to operate until it closed its doors in 1865. One of the most famous clients that Cortland Optical had were General Ulysses S. Grant and his wife Julia Child. When Grant toured the United States in 1861, he took advantage of their services to purchase two scopes from Cortland Optical. These scopes are still used today by many people who visit Cortland because they are such an iconic part of local history. Another client that Cortland Optical enjoyed many years was Senator Daniel Webster. Webster visited the store several times during his time as a Senator and purchased products from them while on tourneys throughout America. One particular product that Webster bought was a scope named after him - a rifle scope called The American Rifleman which became very popular with soldiers during World War I. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties within cortLAND Optical Company, it ceased operations in 1965 before any new customers could be brought in or old equipment refurbished/upgraded for use again (the company did not keep good records). However, this does not mean that Cortland's optical industry didn't continue; there have been other businesses operating at similar levels since then! Today, there are numerous stores across New York selling various types of optics including microscopes, telescopes, binoculars and outdoor gear!

There are also many Hispanic residents who have found work or residency in Cortland since 2000 when waves of Mexican immigrants began flowing into Upstate New York following Proposition 187, which banned affirmative action programs statewide.

The population of Cortland peaked at around 50,000 in 1850 but has since declined significantly due to many factors including travel from Greater New York City or retirement within the town itself. Today, there are only around 15 residents living in CortLAND proper while much of what used to be rural land now features high-end subdivisions that house upwards of 100 households each. Today’s history begins with its Loyalist origins which can be seen in how cortland became an important center for agriculture after the Revolutionary War ended thanks to its location on Long Island Sound and access to markets abroad. From here, cuisine began traveling up America’s East Coast where it would eventually find an audience at home – helping contribute to increased economic stability throughout 18th century America! industries that started developing in Cortland were railroads (the first being built here), textiles (owned by Eli Whitney), woodworking (owned by John Day), aluminum production (owned by General Motors) – all resulting in major advancements for local manufacturers across different sectors during this time period! It wasn’t until after World War II when new technology such as television started arriving and driving more businesses out of town; however, even today remnants of these old industries can still be found throughout downtown areas such as warehouses or yards currently used for housing developments! As mentioned before, over time CortLAND has suffered from several factors including retirement within itself followed by distance from city life or travel outside general Cincinnati/ Dayton area; however some positive aspects have arisensuch as art galleries being opened up near downtown or more recently new sports stadiums Village Green Stadium(ran through Lower Manhattan)and Hofstra University fieldhouse – making it one of America’s most vibrant small towns!
The town of Cortland, New York was originally located in the towns of Rome and Lancaster on the border of what is now Albany County and Seneca County. The first settler in what is now Cortland was Nicholas Cortland, who arrived in 1796. In 1814, the town was incorporated as a Village by an act of the State Legislature. On July 16, 1825, it became a Town when it received a charter from the New York State Legislature. In 1831, Cortland had a population of 1,500. The town experienced growth during the American Civil War with homes being built for soldiers and their families. During that time there were also factories located in town to produce munitions for the war effort. After the war ended, many residents left and thetown declined until it regained its original size by 1830.
