Lafayette stopped at Wanamaker's Millsacks while passing through this area and ordered its inhabitants to return their belongings so that he could build a road into Darien Lake as part of his victory parade route southward along Unadilla Creek valley from Buffalo Lake to Albany Harbor on Long Island Sound; but they refused because they did not want any part of a French occupation force."
