The Cortland Rifle and Pistol Club was founded in 1892. The club became the first gun-rights organization in upstate New York. The club was renamed the Cortland Rifle and Pistol Association in 1907. In 1951, the NRA was formed in Cortland and the club changed its name to the NRA-Cortland Gun Club.
Cortland, New York is a town in Cortland County, New York, United States. The population was 20,829 at the 2010 census. The name of the town comes from the Erie Canal and its valley. The first European settlers in Cortland arrived in 1784 on the land that now makes up part of what is today Cortland County. In 1814 a post office called "Cortland" was established; it was discontinued in 1841. The first store built in the community was operated by Nicholas Joicey and his son John Joicey. A mill known as the "Canal Mill" located on Canalside Drive near present-day Middleburgh opened in 1820. It became an important source of flour for many years before being closed down around 1960; it has been erroneously reported that it still stands today. In 1830 George Washington Stephenson built a canal to transport materials used to build the Erie Canal oversize from Oneonta to Buffalo (nowNiagara Falls). He realized that this would be an ideal route for shipping commodities such as lumber and other items mined along the way by farmers and entrepreneurs who could not get to Buffalo quickly enough for delivery or because they did not have canals large enough to bring their cargo all the way there. On July 1, 1830, when President James Ketchum certified Congress's request for $10 thousand dollars for construction of this new canal system he also contributed $5 thousand towards its development with instructions that only one-third of this amount should be spent on actual construction work but $7 thousand should go towards marketing and advertising so that potential investors would know about our project and come take a look On November 7th 1830 just 10 miles away from where we are now stood another company named “ navigation corporation” had announced their intention to construct a canal between Buffalo Niagara Falls and Lake Ontario With both these announcements happening within days of each other it seems very likely that either man had already seen or heard about each other’s projects even though no contracts were ever signed or agreements made until much later . This suggests either someone with some sort of clout or knowledge decided early on which project would become reality – sure enough shortly afterwards we see articles starting to appear indicating both companies have completed surveys but due lack of available funds cannot start building yet . It wasn’t until sometime after those articles went up that people started realizing this actually wasn’t just two separate companies working together but rather one company actually making progress on TWO CANALS !!!!! Which begs another question: Who exactly owned/controlled these two companies? And more importantly why? The answer to these questions may never be fully understood but one thing is for sure: whoever owned/controlled Navigation Corporation definitely knew about George Stephenson’s canal project – they were clearly trying to delaying things slightly so they could keep control over everybody involved

Cortland, New York is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 24,619 at the 2010 census. Cortland was named after Colonel John Cortland and his family who came to the area in 1796. The first settler in what is now Cortland was Nicholas White which took place on October 30th, 1796. Other early settlers included Lorenzo Carleton and others from Connecticut. In 1827 (the year of the American Civil War), Alfred Smedley built a sawmill on the Hacketts Creekrand near present day downtown Cortland. The mill continued operation until 1865 when it closed because of low water levels due to deforestation caused by logging operations on nearby hillsides. On December 2nd, 1814, Isaac Warner established a small gristmill east of today's Main Street in what is now Third Ward. The mill operated until it burned down around 1830 (likely due to weather conditions). In 1847, Captain George Washington Smith founded an agricultural colony near what is now Waterloo which became known as Westchester County; this colony eventually produced over 50% of all US wheat during that time period! In 1840-41 (the same year as Buffalo) Nathaniel Priest set up a tannery on High Street just south of present day First Ward; this business continued until 1851 when it burned down due to bad weather conditions! During the 1850s and 1860s there were many small businesses located throughout downtown Cortland including an Odd Fellows benevolent society hall dating back to 1852; an A&P store dating back to 1861; and two banks – First National Bank and Second National Bank – both operating from 1862 through 1865! There was also a court house built between 1850-1853 which served as the town courthouse until 1830 when it burned down! In addition, three steamboats docked at Hackett’s Landing between 1860-1862 serving as dockyards for local farmers and shipping logs bound for Buffalo or Rochester; these boats are still visible today along High Street just north of downtown Cortland. The first post office in Cortland date back to November 5th, 1837 (this office moved from West Seneca Falls into downtown cortLAND around 1840). From its inception until about 1870 mail service for residents within town was provided by horseback riders using relay stations set up along major roads leading into town from outlying farms/villages etc.; these riders would deliver mail personally onto their horses while carrying extra supplies necessary for their journey home evening sunstroke tolerant! By 1870 most residents within town had either connected via railroad or got their mail delivered through steamships! This system gradually fell apart over time with various innovations includingBega Post Office opened in 1907 serving rural areas outside of town well into the 20th century despite efforts by boosters like Mayor Jameson Toomey Sr.)

The town was named for Colonel John Cortland, who served as an officer in the English army during the Nine Years' War. From 1764 to 1768, Cortland was ruled by a Board of Commissioners under the direction of Governor George Clinton. In 1768, it became an independent town and remained so until 1949 when it merged into New York City.
