Afterward it developed into an industrial center concentrating on glass products such as windows and mirrors; other sectors include transportation equipment manufacture and information technology companies. In 2000 Corning merged with competitor Pyrex Corporation to form Unilever plc.; this merger created one of America's largest food corporations with interests in beverage production, health care services, chemicals and plastics manufacturing among others In 2006 Unilever announced that they would be moving their headquarters from England to India due to global competition from Walmart Inc.; however after much protest from local residents this move came to pass only two years later when Walmart moved theirHQ back to Bentonville Arkansas

In 1831-32 John Prentice built a sawmill on East Ferry Road which he named after his brother Samuel Prentice who had been killed during the War of 1812 while serving with militia under General James Wilkinson's command at Fort Erie on Lake Ontario - now Toronto Canada
