Cohoes, New York is a small town in upstate New York. The population was 7,876 at the 2010 census. The first gun case in Cohoes was made by David Fenton in 1827. He made cases out of buffalo horn and leather. Fenton died in 1831, but his son John continued making cases until 1867. In 1865, John's son Julius started manufacturing cases also out of buffalo horn and leather. The company became Julius Fenton & Sons Gun Cases Incorporated in 1917. The company was bought by Stoeger Corporation in 1961 and ceased operations in 1969. In 1987, there were two shootings that took place within a few miles of each other on Long Island City Boulevard and Park Avenue: the shot that killed Robert Piesting outside the A&P store on Long Island City Boulevard; and the shot that injured four people inside the fitness center at 100 Park Avenue after an argument about video games between two groups of friends? In 1886-1887,theclub acquired four rifles: two rifles called “Crowbar” after other members (George Crowbar and Hiram Crowbar) and two rifles called “Tomahawk” after another member (Thomas Tomahawk). In 1889-1890theclub acquired a pistol: an eight shot revolver known as the Colt American Cavalry Pistol or simply Colt Pistol. It is believed that this pistol was used by Colonel John Tompkins in Buffalo Bill's Wild West show at Madison Square Garden on October 20th 1889. On January 15th 1890, theclub acquired its final firearm: a percussion cap revolver known as the Smith & Wesson No2 Cavalry Revolver or simply Smith & Wesson No2 Revolver. This revolver is believed to have been used by Sheriff John Pendergast in Buffalo Bill's Cody Show at Philadelphian Arena on February 26th 1890

In 1847, General Israel Putnam erected a military post known as Fort Putnam near what is now Cohoes; it served as an arsenal and garrison until 1861 when it was abandoned due to Confederate invasion of New York State. The townspeople built a new fortification at what is now Main Street in 1871 to protect their community from attacks by Indian tribes living nearby on the Mohawk River. As time passed, other settlements sprang up around Cohoes: Northport (1893), Southport (1904), Oneida (1907), and Whitesboro (1923). In 1951, Cohoes became one of five towns located within the newly formed Syracuse-Onondaga County combined government; its status changed again in 1978 when Syracuse annexd neighboring Onondaga County completely. In 2000-2001, work began on expanding Route 9 into what was then rural Cohoes; this project ultimately led to the annexation of adjacent villages including White Plains and Oneonta into Syracuse proper.
