It is believed that the first bullets were created at a gunsmith shop in Norwich, England by order of Captain John Brownell. These cannons were called “Conte” guns and became very popular in Europe during the 16th century. In 1795–96 Benjamin Franklin designed a rifle that would be able to shoot Bullets through loopholes in logs which he named the rifle “The BB Rifle” after his initials, BKF. This rifle was initially used by colonial militia forces across America but it was not successful due to its poor accuracy. The 1804 French Army adopted an improved design of their musket known as the .45 calibre breechloading musket which could be fired with either round or balls (round shots). This new design made it possible for soldiers to carry more rounds with them into battle making it more efficient for fighting against enemy troops on foot or mounted cavalry units. The term “bullet” originated from this type of weapon because each round contained two lead balls instead of just one like traditional cannonballs). Additionally, this new musket allowed grenadiers (soldiers who fought on horseback) to fire grenades directly from their saddles without having to reload every time

The town was founded in 1795 by Cornish immigrants from Devon, England. The town's first store opened in 1811 and its first post office was established in 1814. Cohoes was part of the Erie Canal Zone until 1923. In 1957, Cohoes became the site of one of the most significant accidents on the Long Island Railroad when an express train derailed and killed six people and injured dozens more.

The population was 5,595 at the 2010 census. The name of Cohoes comes from the Mohawk word "kohonie" meaning "a place where one can fish." In 1814, when Cohoes was founded as a part of Geneva Township by Andrew Pickering and others, it was known as Haverhill. In 1846, when Cohoes became an incorporated village it changed its name to Cohoes because of its proximity to Schenectady on Lake George. According to local legend, two brothers named John and Cornelius closed up their grocery store in 1847 and moved away from Cohoes because they could not compete with stores opened in more populous villages such as Schenectady. The only grocery store in town still remains open today - Main Street Merchants Cooperative - which sells groceries (including fruits) by subscription. The first post office in Cohoes opened on July 1st, 1854. At that time there were only three houses in town - all built before 1850 - so the first mail carrier delivering mail between Rochester and Albany had trouble finding an route through town until he finally arrived on July 9th! As more houses were built throughouttown over time, mail delivery became easier and more reliable; however, ZIP code 84523 remains the zip code for local government services within town limits today. Today's economy is based largely on agriculture; however some businesses do operate in downtown Cohoes including clothing stores (Oscar Mayer), pet shops (Paws 'N' Potatoes), restaurants (Munster's Place Italian Grill & Market), nail salons/spas (Lily's Nails & Spa), and a few other smaller businesses. Downtown also contains several churches including First Congregational Church which dates back to 1795-1875; Stowe Methodist Episcopal Church which was founded in 1884; Metropolitan Community Church which traces its roots back even further to 1785-1789; Christmastime Wonderland Services held each year at Fort William Henry since 1978 are also headquartered downtown as well as several art galleries/markets/picnics taking place throughoutthe year outside of Town Hall plaza across from Main Street Merchants Cooperative building: these include galleries like One World Gallery owned by developer Erik Geiser who has plans for development along State Street between Third Avenue South & Fourth Avenue North that would greatly impact downtown business spaces.; among many new developments announced or soonest coming downriver around Town Hall plaza area are a planned restaurant called Rangeman’s Alley BBQ – billed as being America’s FIRST outdoor patio grill with seating for 450+ – under construction next door at Second Ave S.; an apartment complex being developed across Second Ave S., featuring 350 apartments with 2 underground garage levels + 1 large upper level (+/- 15 parking spaces); retail favorites like BOGGIE BARNES ice cream parlor reopened after 4 years closed while they rebuild their current location closer uptown near Broadway Shopping Center; plus numerous small businesses getting started or expanding nearby all driven by demand generated by recent development activity within walking distance both inside&outside of Town Hall Plaza area
