In 1835, a school was established in Canandaigua and it has been educating children in the town ever since. By 1840, there were over 100 people living in Canandaigua.

Canandaigua is the largest municipality in Chenango County by land area and is also the second-largest municipality by population after Auburn. The Village of Canandaigua had a total population of 2,451 as of the 2010 census. The first settlement in what is now Canandaigua was made on April 10, 1784 by John Armstrong and his men while they were exploring the part of Chenango County west of Buffalo Creek. A post office called Armstrongville was established in 1815, and remained in operation until 1840. Canandaigua was incorporated as a village on November 5, 1851. As the town grew it annexed parts of other villages until it had a total population of 6,821 as of the 2000 census. The current Mayor is James McMahon with a term beginning on January 1st 2020

Canandaigua, New York is a town in Tioga County, New York, United States. The population was 4,023 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rome, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Canandaigua was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 when he and his party journeyed up the Mohawk River from Albany to Niagara Falls. He named it "Canaaniga" after the Canaanite city of Ugarit on the Syrian coast. In 1795, Canandaigua was platted as a town by General George Clinton and named for General John Forbes who had served with him during the American Revolutionary War. In 1825, Canandaigua became one of three towns in Tioga County along with Rome and Utica to be incorporated under the state of New York. The other two towns were Oneida and Auburn Hills. On July 1, 1827, Canandaigua had a population of 729 people when it became one of four villages within what would become Syracuse City Limits (the others being Auburn Hills/East Syracuse Township (now Amherst), Oneida Heights/North Syracuse Township (Now Watertown), and Rome). In 1830s & 1840s canaigeans migrated westward into Ontario Canada where they founded what is now Calgary
Canandaigua is a town in Western New York, United States. The population was 5,843 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Syracuse–Onondaga County, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by the Dutch in 1624 as "Westervelt". It was renamed Canandaigua in 1785 after General George Washington's military victory over the French at Canandaigua Lake. The town's first settlers were chiefly German Protestants from Nuremberg and Ansbach who arrived during the American Revolution to fight for independence from Great Britain. The small community grew rapidly thanks to its natural resources and attracted merchants and farmers from upstate New York and Pennsylvania. In 1814, Canandaigua became one of four towns in western Onondaga County (the other three being Cortlandtville, Oneida Falls, and Tonawanda) that formed the independent city of Syracuse. By 1860, Canandaiguga had a population of 7,023; it reached 10,000 by 1920. During World War II, Canandaiga served as an airfield for42nd Fighter Group Flying Training School which operated out of nearby Seneca Army Airfield beginning on 8 September 1942 until 14 April 1945 when it closed due to damage caused by Japan's bombing campaign against America; however many aircraft still remain parked there today including some F-4s flown into service with Taiwan's Republic Air Force during their time as part of PLAN Dalian Airmen ( Taiwanese air force). In recent years much work has been done on improving infrastructure such as new roads and schools while also preserving historic buildings like First Presbyterian Church which was built in 1800. The current mayor is Luis Gutierrez who won office on November 6th 2017
