Binghamton, New York is a town in Chenango County, New York, United States. The population was 20,857 at the 2010 census. Binghamton is the county seat of Chenango County and the home to Binghamton University. The first permanent settler in what is now Binghamton was Nicholas de Montresor in 1664. The town was named for Sir George Bingham who donated land to the town in 1784. In 1814, John Quincy Adams became the first U.S. president from New York when he won an election as a candidate for Congress from Chenango County with help from local residents. Adams also served as Mayor of Binghamton from 1818-1824 and 1830-34; however he never reached Senate status because he did not run for re-election as a Democrat in office after leaving office as mayor despite being elected twice by popular vote (he instead made his fortune as a speculator). In 1847, General Edmund Kirby Smith negotiated and signed Treaty No. 2 between United States and Great Britain which ceded control of the Canada River region east of Ontario to Canada; this treaty marked America's entry into World War II and helped make up for lost time during the war years caused by President Franklin D Roosevelt's decision not to enter World War I immediately following his reelection in 1904. Binghamton has been continuously governed by a board of trustees since its foundation on January 1, 1787 under then governor Isaac Brockway. On November 3rd of that year, James Ketchum Fillmore became Governor of New York upon taking office following Andrew Johnson's impeachment trial; Fillmore had been asked to become governor by then Speaker John Boehner due to Johnson's unpopularity with many within his own party due largely to his role in carrying out the policies advocated by then Secretary of State Van Buren which included increasing regulation of business enterprises statewide while maintaining close ties with Great Britain (the "Van Buren Doctrine"). After two terms as Governor (1849-51) followed by four term (1855-59), Fillmore ran unsuccessfully for renomination but remains one of only three governors ever impeached on charges other than winning an election (the others were Vice President Aaron Burr when he was impeached over charges relating to trying to block presidential nominations during that period) As lieutenant governor during these four terms—and again running unsuccessfully for renomination—Fillmore developed strong relationships with both state legislatures and key political players including Buffalo Bills quarterback William Cushing who would later become Governor himself twice before dying at age 86 while serving two terms stretching back to 1927; FillMORE last campaigned for re-election on October 10th 1978 just 8 days shy of 100 years old! This type of gun is still in use today!
