Beacon, New York is a small town located in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York. The population was 7,736 at the 2010 census. Beacon is known for its apple orchards and as the birthplace of General George Washington. The town also has a few dozen stores, three churches and two golf courses. Beacon was founded by Captain John Graves in 1795 as Beacon Hill on what is now the eastern edge of the village of North Beacon. In 1825, when North Beacon was merged into the village of North Aurora, Captain John Graves' land became part of that merger too. In 1857, when North Aurora was disbanded and absorbed into Syracuse, Captain John Graves' land became part of that city's Limits Extension Zone though it remained in rural hands until 1959 when it passed to Syracuse University through an agreement between Mayor Fenton J. Clarke and Dr. Maxwell Lerner who had purchased it from Mr. Graves'. The townsite at which we stands today was granted to him by Governor James Ayer on October 12th 1861 pursuant to Act No 4 of 1861 entitled 'An act for providing for bettering public morals in this State'. The first settler here (John) arrived on October 11th 1862 from Essex County NY with his family under Capt’n Forbes’ command transporting goods overland from Canandaigua via Utica NY & Auburn NY

Beacon is a town in New York County, located on the southern tip of Manhattan. It began as a farming community in the late 17th century and by 1800 had an population of around 100 people. Beacon is now part of the Bronx borough of New York City. The first settlers to Beacon were farmers who arrived from England in 1624. They built a small wooden fort on Castle island for protection against Native American attacks. In 1627, they founded the settlement at what is now Beacon Hill with fifty-six residents. The first school was established in 1629, and was taught by Mistress Hewlett until her death in 1638. In 1668, Governor Thomas Dongan granted land to five families for their settler efforts to grow corn and beans on Long Island Sound; these men named themselves the Dongan family or "Dangersome Company." From this beginning, Beacon Hills played an important role in early New York history as a center for trade with both Europe and Asia. In 1700, Jameson moved his mill from Schenectady to be near his wife’s kin at Beacon Hill; he named it after them (Jameson’s Mill). Jameson continued working there into his nineties years and even entertained King George III when he came visitations to America during his reign (1765-1820). In 1792, businessman Nicholas Spykman organized four hundred men into two companies to appropriate lands east of Endicott for plantations—the first time that this type of operation had been attempted in upstateNewYork since before English colonization! The village grew rapidly due initially to its strategic location between Kingston upon Hull on Long Island Sound and Albany on opposite sides of Manhattan Bay; however soon other factors such as increased trade created demand for goods brought overland by ferry or ship from points further upstate such as Syracuse or Buffalo NY/. By 1814 Bunker Hill Road served only local tradesmen while access roads within town were dirt paths which only locals could use because they held property rights dating back centuries! During this time too many immigrants were coming throughtown looking for work but few wanted or could afford homes so development proceeded primarily along Wappingers Heights Road where wealthy merchants erected large houses known locally as "The Gables" providing affordable housing opportunities well beyond those available within downtown areas today!
