This weapon was used by the French military in their efforts to conquer America during the Revolutionary War. In 1824, John Witherspoon designed and patented the first practical shotgun hammer. This implement consisted of a wooden stock with an iron head that wasmounted on an Adjustable Hammer (or Hammer Sticker). The wadcutter Shotgun featured this type of hammer, which caused significant damage to opponent’s shotguns during combat. The development of the modern shotgunhammer started in 1875 withthe US Patent 713,848 filed by George Morse entitled “A Gun Hammer With A Serrated Striker For Accurate Shooting At Long Range”. This invention allowed shotguns to be fired more accurately at long ranges than ever before. The patent also provided insight into how such an instrument could be used in law enforcement operations and hunting events. Over time, other inventors have contributed to the development ofgun hammers. The company prospered until 1872 when it merged with other wire manufacturers to form American Wire Products (AWP) which continued as an independent company until 1984 when it was acquired by Tyco International Incorporated In 1840 Captain Edwin Booth Sims settled down about three miles northwest of where modern-day Beacon stands along Route 20A (now I-490) under his name and farmstead known as East Meadow Booth Sims donated land for schools including one which eventually became Beacon High School . He also endowed $500 per year intoowment for education at Maplecroft Academy near Baltimore Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry appointed Sims acting superintendent of public instruction during his absence from America due to military service aboard HMS Beagle while he served as Governor General of Australia A group led by Reverend Drury erected a large stone structure known today as First Congregational Church next door to East Meadow where services are still conducted every Sunday morning beginning at 9:00am

In 1801, Beacon became part of Clinton Township when it was formed from parts of Webster and Oswego Townsships. In 1814, it became an unincorporated village named for David Levy; it lost its status as an incorporated village in 1822. In 1834, Beacon gained city rights and changed its name to Buffalo. On November 12, 1850, Buffalo received its first railway line when the Erie Canal opened with tracks running through Beacon; this led to increased trade throughout the town and helped make it one of the most industrialized areas in New York State by 1860. On December 14, 1861, Buffalo merged with Niagara Falls into one large city under the name of Niagara Falls City; however, due to different boundaries at that time (the city included both townships that made up Beacon), thosetowns continued to exist separately until January 1st 1870 when they all amalgamated into one municipality under their original names again - including Buffalo-Niagara Falls Municipality!
