The first handguns in Auburn, New York were a pair of pistols made by John C. Frick and patented on December 5, 1836. The pistols were known as the “Frick brothers’ Firearms”. They were used by two pistol makers in town- one named John Frick and the other Samuel Colt- both of whom came from England. In 1837, silver coins called nickels and dimes were introduced into the United States and these new coins had a different design than the earlier copper coins. As a result, many gunsmakers began to make firearms using this new design which included the pepperbox revolver that was manufactured by Samuel Colt in 1837 in Auburn, New York. When gold was discoverednear Erie County, New York in 1849, gunsmiths began to produce firearms based on this new discovery as well. This led to several companies being founded throughout central New York State for the production of firearms including those founded by James Worthy and William Davenport at Utica Arsenal near Rochester. By 1860 there were over 200 gun factories located throughout New York State alone employing around 100,000 men making rifles, shotguns and handguns!

Auburn is located on the southern edge of the Finger Lakes region and it is bordered by the towns of Rome and Amherst to the north, Canandaigua to the east, and Geneva to the south. The village of Auburn had a population of 514 in 2000. As an agricultural community, Auburn has been home to many different types of crops since its establishment as a hamlet in 1824. Today, most residents are engaged in farming or ranching activities. There are also several churches and schools within easy reach of southeastern Chenango County residents. The village was founded by Rev John Armstrong who came from Canada with his family in 1824 and started a mission station hereabouts known as "Armstrong's Chapel". His grandson James Armstrong became pastor at this chapel in 1872 when it merged with another nearby church called "Church Hill" which was started by Pastor Amos Wright (a native son). From then until his death in 1914 Reverend James Armstrong's legacy lived on through his children; they continued worshiping at Church Hill until their conversion to Lutheranism and moved back into Armstrong's original house which still stands today across from Green Lake Road close to where Mrs Armstrong raised her grandchildren-Now primarily used for storage facilities! Auburn Post Office opened on October 15th 1865 under name "Lutheran Town Hall". It closed January 1st 1902 due to consolidation among other post offices around Chenango County so that office could be open only during daylight hours! In 1898 Dr Clyde Pritchard became postmaster after serving for two years as Acting Clerk under previous Postmaster General JB Moorehead (the first African American ever elected statewide). At first he served singlehandedly but soon grew tired working so long days behind the counter! Mr Pritchard donated his old office building on North Main Street which housed local blacksmith shop next door until it burned down last year! A new building erected on site includes an attached garage/ workshop/garage room now used as lunchroom for school district administration!!! Ida Mae Wheeler attended Primary School here before moving off into adulthood later serving 2 terms Mayor of Syracuse NY City Councilmember 1990-1998 & 2001-2003 ummm sorry doesn't work now I'm retired

Auburn was first settled by Europeans in the early 17th century and became an incorporated village in 1836. The village was named for General James Wilkinson who fought in the American Revolution and later served as Mayor of Auburn from 1843 to 1845. In 1896, it merged with neighboring villages of Unadilla and Rome Township to form the new city of Auburn by merger of two separate townships which had been created from parts of Unadilla Township and Rome Township respectively. As one of only a few remaining rural hamlets within Monroe County after its annexation into New York City in 1898, Auburn enjoyed stability until World War II when it came under attack from Japanese forces during their occupation of Japan's mainland Asia. For many years thereafter, local residents were prohibited from engaging in any hostilities outside the limits set by law or military ordinance. This policy continued until 1945 when the area was liberated by Allied forces following years of fighting throughout Japan including what is now known as World War II Memorial Park located just east of town on Route 9 near where modern day Interstate 80 crosses over Route 9A (now I-86)
Auburn, New York was first settled in 1784 by Loyalists who fled the British during the American Revolution. The town was named for General John Auburn, a hero of the war. In 1801, Auburn became a part of Orleans County and was incorporated as a village on May 1, 1809. It was renamed Auburn in 1850 and again in 1881 after its incorporation into the City of Rochester. On November 15, 1830, an act to create a college at Auburn was passed by the New York State Legislature and it opened on October 16, 1831 under the name of Clinton Normal School. The school closed in 1865 due to financial difficulties.
