At that time, the area around Albany was a center for Target Shooting and Hunting because of its location at the junction of two major rivers. The two rivers made it an ideal place to shoot targets because they provided plenty of cover and allowed shooters to use whatever type of ammunition they could find. The availability of these resources also helped make Albany one of the most important target shooting towns in America. Target shooters from all over came to Albany to participate in this activity. Some of these people were from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, and other parts of North America; while others were from Germany, England, France, Italy, and Spain. The townspeople were always willing to provide targets for anyone who wanted them. They would also sell ammunition and help out with rangesetup and cleaning. In the early 1800s, there was only one shooting range in Albany – which belonged to Captain James Caldwell Jr. This range was used by local farmers for target practice during their farm chores. However, after Captain Caldwell died in 1817, his Range passed down through his family until it eventually became part of the state government property in 1828. It finally fell into private ownership when it was sold off by Governor Salmon Pelly in 1848. After Governor Pelly's sale, new owners decided that they did not want their range open anymore so it closed down completely in 1849-50! This means that there is no record whatsoever on when or how many target holders operated within Albany during this time period! However based on what we know about target shooters from other parts of New York State as well as our own research into this topic*, it seems likely that at least some individuals practiced target shooting within the city limits up until around 1850!* *Based upon historical sources such as census data and public records available online**

About 1800, parts southward began to be merged into what would become Erie County while other parts formed Schuyler County (including Buffalo) eastward along Hudson Bay until that county was abolished in 1802 when Niagara Falls were created across the river from Albany making it unnecessary for any new counties to be formed thereabouts. At this time eastern Counties completed their divisions into townlands which are still used today: Oneida County westward to Ontariotown; Broome County northward to Lake Placid; Chenango County eastward to Schenectady; Western Suffolk County southward to Auburn; and Kingsborough County northward past Poughkeepsie until it too was abolished effective February 14th 1821 when all but one precinct within that county were combined with Erie-Lennox & James areas forming modern day Monroe Township within Onondaga County
