In 1807, Albany became the capital of New York State and gun targets were one of the first items to be imported into the new country. By 1830, Albany had become an important manufacturing center with a largegun industry. Gunnery contests were organized throughout the town, giving shooters opportunities to compete in local tournaments. In 1851, Albany was renamed after James Buchanan's inauguration as President of the United States and gun targets continued to play an important role in local society. After World War II, gun Targets transitioned from being a popular pastime to becoming something more commercialized. However, they continue to be used as educational tools today.
Albany is a city in New York State, on the eastern tip of the Albany-Schenectady area. The population was 209,821 at the 2010 census. As of 2017, it had an estimated population of 231,723. The city is named after George Washington's home and headquarters in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The first Europeans to visit what is now Albany were French traders and missionaries led by Jacques Marquette in 1609. In 1714, the British established a trading post at Fort Orange on the Mohawk River near present-day Schenectady. British traders gradually acquired more land in central New York during this period and by 1725 they had founded a town called Gananoque within contemporary Albany Township. A new forte was needed for American forces during the Indian War (1754-1763). An act of Parliament authorized Colonel John Forbes to build a fort at West Point on Hudson River near modern day Tonawanda County that became known as Forbes Heights; this fort served as an encampment for American troops until 1764 when it was abandoned due to bad news from Canada about British successes against France across Lake Champlain. On February 14, 1785, John Jay signed the Treaty of Paris ending the Seven Years' War which ended with Britain taking control over North America and Spain retaining control over South America. Albany became part of Great Britain as part of its Northwest Territory following its acquisition of that territory from France via purchase in 1763; however, Dutch colonists continued to reside in what is today Albany even after their dependence on Great Britain ended. In 1814, Congress passed an act authorizing President James Kahl to annex all or part of Connecticut into United States territory along with Ontario (now Ontario), Michigan Territory including parts of Wisconsin and Minnesota and Parts Of Illinois etc., but no action was taken because no agreement had been reached between Washington and Baltimore Regarding those territories which would be organized into new states; these territories would become New York (Ontario) and Michigan respectively On July 1st 1824 Yates resigned his commission as military governor; he had objected strenuously to General Lucius Neely's decision not to pursue battle against Tecumseh who crossed Upper Canada northward towards Montreal while marching through Albany under cover of darkness on June 23rd 1824 having learned about Coloureds burned alive by Native Americans west side river just eastside current Stonington village barracks where he resided some time before crossing then continuing upriver past Niagara Falls Bridge most likely leading thence down river below rapids below falls so large none could swim or float easy passage required also Indian Wars many skirmishes fought only three people killedColoured slave trade increased rapidly along Reditus creek one African died probably drowning incident followed several other slave deaths resulting from Indians raiding villages along stream Water level rose several feet making navigation very difficult so if any person found stranded without clothes or shelter great danger posed

Dutch traders founded a fur trading post at Fort Orange in 1665; this was followed by another at Fort Nassau which served as an early capital. The English captured Fort Orange during the siege of Albany in 1674, but did not occupy it because they lacked artillery sufficient to besiege a fortified fortification. John Nicolls relieved Nicolls and built Fort Independence at what is now Union Square in 1714 following his victory over Sir George Clinton's forces at Saratoga Creek that year. The English abandoned New Netherland in 1755 due to continuing Indian resistance; however they continued to maintain two settlements here: One near present-day Union Square Park while another located south along Schenectady Creek near Inner Harbor Town Center before moving their headquarters back northward under direction from Great Britain some time later In 1783 John Jay moved his headquarters here from Brooklyn after achieving independence from Great Britain; he would become one of America's first leaders during its Revolutionary War era In 1827 Godfrey Wexler became president pro tempore United States Senate upon confirmation by Congress that Andrew Johnson had been confirmed as President Pro Tempore by direct vote Wexler would be one half brother-in-law to Abraham Lincoln On December 15th 1875 James Wigley died suddenly at age 54 leaving behind four children - three daughters named Sarah Fenton Wexler Haddon Wigley born 1865 Mary Elizabeth Woolridge Alger Wexler 1862 Augustus Keyes Weldon Haddon 1861 Ida B Wells
