Albany, New York is a city in the Midwestern United States. It is the capital of New York State and was founded by George Washington in 1785 as Albany County. In 1664, Dutch colonists organized a successful siege and capture of Long Island by English forces under Colonel John Sloat. This event led to increased Dutch support for establishment of a permanent English colony on Long Island through political connections made through marrying English women and working their plantations there. Albany County was formed from parts of Queens County on April 1, 1686 when settlers from Manhattan moved into newly purchased land east of Fort Orange (now The Bronx). In 1785, George Washington became Presidentof the United States and ordered surveyors to draft a plan for future American capitals based on recommendations from General James Ketchum and Major-General Nathanael Greene. On July 8th, 1785 – two days before his inauguration – Washington met with representatives from seventeen colonies located along the Susquehanna River including Albany which proposed that he move National Headquarters to central NY City so that all those colonies could share common interests and protect themselves against British aggression should that happen again (the French Revolution had just commenced). Washington accepted this proposal but also directed Surveyor General Samuel McIntyre to create plans for each state capital specifically tailored towards meeting Revolutionary needs: Philadelphia would be developed as an international center; Hartford would house government courts; Annapolis would serve as headquarters for Continental Marines; Richmond would be home to Army artillery batteries; Boston would develop port facilities; while Syracuse would become home to both provincial government offices and military posts (at least until 1814 when it became part of New York). In 1792–93 Congress passed An act authorizing erection within limits below Roxbury Heights by vesting certain lands therein unto certain gentlemen named Tryon & others being trustees appointed thereof &c., thenceforth called Tryontown etc., forming parte[d]ly with [New York City] pursuant thereto…. A town lot or portione thereof were granted forthwith unto Timothy Pickering Esquire alias Tryon about three AcresEastward cornering Broadway near Water Street &c….. Upon these plans were erected various buildings including McIntyre's Department Store which still stands today at 4 Bridge Street/Route 511 across Westchester County line

At that time, General John Burgoyne arrived in Albany with his army for their rendezvous with Washington at Saratoga Field outside present-day Plattsburgh; Burgoyne had been sent there to prevent American forces from crossing into Canada via Fort Niagara on Lake Ontario and marching into Quebec City.. After years of debate between some members of Congress and others about whether or not to build a canal through this area because local rivers were too deep or wide for navigation without pumps available todale them fullness, canal commissioners chose Maynard Hastings Clark as their designer for an aqueduct across Silver Creek which would separate Lockport from Troy.. On October 29th , 1848 – two months after Jefferson Davis was elected Vice President – an act was passed by Congress creating the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad which ran through parts of western New York including parts now within Albany County and included portions also lying within today's Chenango Valley.. On December 13th , 1849 – only days before Gold Rush fever broke out among Hispanics living alonglayout where mining camps had been set up – seven men were hanged from a bridge over Silver Creek by orderof Major General James Wilkinson for conspiracy against US Government
