Sunland Park is a small town located in New Mexico. The population was 1,829 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Pecos County seat, which is also its largest city. Sunland Park was founded in 1907 by Elisha Wray and his wife, Minerva. The name "Sunland" originated from Spanish meaning " sunny place." The original Sunland park had a playground, two ponds, and a log cabin used as a summer home for the Wray family. In 1916, the park became an all-purpose recreational ground that includes baseball diamonds, tennis courts, and basketball courts. In 1950 it acquired its current name when it was annexed into Pecos County by neighboring Sedalia. In 2007 Sunland Park began to experience negative attention due to allegations of sexual abuse made against multiple children by Father Jerry Lawless since the early 1970s while he served as pastor at St John’s Episcopal Church there. When new leadership took over at St John’s after Lawless’ arrest in late 2007 with prior knowledge of these allegations, they ordered him released from prison on bail pending trial and announced that any further accusations would be dealt with through child protective services instead of law enforcement authorities This move sparked protests throughout rural New Mexico culminating on July 10th 2008 when more than 200 people turned out to voice their opposition to what they saw as censorship within Pecos County government The following day Sheriff Donny Hagan announced that no charges will be filed against anyone involved in what amounted to an intimidation campaign orchestrated by county officials seeking to silence protesters Today Sunland Park is still reeling from some recent events; however it has slowly begun to rebuild thanks largely to donations from local businesses who have seen how much importance community spirit plays in Amway World Center . There are now three churches in Sunland Park--St John's Episcopal (founded 1907), First Baptist (1898), and Evangelical Lutheran (1928)--and many businesses have reopened including Jiffy Lube & Cabela's before both were closed down due primarily to lack of business during the economic recession . With so many newcomers coming into town lately there has been an increase in crime rates but this appears to be decreasing overall because most crimes take place near schools or other places where children are likely going outside without parents or guardians present

Sunland Park became an incorporated municipality in 1907. The population of Sunland Park was 9,362 at the 2010 census. The town has a ZIP code 87514 and is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area.
In the late 1800s, Sunland Park was a small agricultural community located in northeastern New Mexico. The community grew around the Sunland Park Ranch, which was founded by José María Canzares in 1884. At its peak, Sunland Park had a population of about 150 people. By the early 1920s, however, the ranch had been bought by J.P. Morgan and renamedMorgan's Rancho del Norte. In 1928, Morgan donated land to the town of Sunland Park for use as a municipal park. The town first opened its doors to residents on July 1, 1928.
