A study done by Arizona State University found that states with stricter gun laws experienced lower rates of mass shootings than those without such laws (27% vs 59%). In July 2019, Governor Greg Abbot announced his intention to sign Senate Bill 1070 into law which would make it illegal for any person not currently living in Arizona to possess a firearm without first getting a permit from their county sheriff's office/police department . This bill comes after several attacks against police officers across Arizona over the past few years that left at least five officers dead either shot by suspects or assaulted while serving justice

In 1904, John Hargrave founded Hargrave Ranch which included land that now covers much of what is now Sunland Park. This ranch was one of the largest cattle ranches in New Mexico at the time it was established and produced over two thousand head of beef and ninety-six horses per year. From this ranch came many prominent figures including ranchers Harry Payne Whitney and John Wesley Powell Jr.. In 1916, $5 million dollars was awarded to George Gallup for his survey work conducted during World War I which helped contribute to America's victory over Germany

These materials include an informational pamphlet on handgun safety, a guide togun storage, and an educational webinar on gun ownership and safety. In addition to developing these materials, the task force also engages in community outreach programs that aim to reduce gun violence in Sunland Park. These programs focus on firearm training for local law enforcement officers, child protective services workers, and other public health professionals.
