Sunland Park is a small, rural town in New Mexico that is home to the Sunland Gun Shop. The shop was started by Tom and Jeanne Sun in 1955. The store has been in business for over fifty years. In addition to selling firearms, the shop also sells ammo, parts and accessories for guns. The Sunlands have been involved in the gun industry since they opened their store. They originally bought rifles and shotguns from local dealers and began sellering them together themselves. For many years they were one of the only gun shops in Sunland Park. In 2007, they retired their own handguns but still keep a inventory of old-style revolvers and other pistols. Tom Sun originally learned how to solder firearms from his father who did it himself back when there were no electronic guitars or TVs available as part of the manufacturing process. Today, Tom continues his father's tradition by hand welding each firearm piece together himself using traditional methods including hot air welding and gas welding with brass fittings. This ensures that each firearm piece is not only unique but also properly Signed By The Maker! Sunland Park is a town in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 1,534 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albuquerque-Roswell Metropolitan Statistical Area. Sunland Park first settled in 1881 and post office was established in 1884. The town was named for General Manuel Francisco Sun land grantee who died in 1884. The community grew rapidly during World War II as many American military personnel were stationed nearby and many families moved into the area to work on defense projects or in munitions plants. Sunland Park experienced rapid growth again after the end of the war and by 1990 it had reached its peak with a population of 2,500 residents. However, over time the growth slowed and by 2000 only 1,254 people lived there. Most recently Sunland Park has seen a resurgence in development due to recent oil spills that have occurred near their local refinery which has led to an increase in traffic and pollution around the town center. As a result of these issues some residents have opted to move out of town while others are looking to revitalize their community through new development or investment opportunities

Pistols The first handguns were created in 1795 by French gunsmith François-Jacques Conte. They were called “balles de musique” (musical balls). These handguns had no barrel and consisted only of a small amount of metal shot Implanted into the buttstock for shooting purposes. The ball was fired from a stock that rested on the hand. The first pistols were used for self-defense and hunting trials were held with these weapons in order to test their accuracy and feasibility as handguns. In 1805, Nicolas-Jacques Conte developed the percussion cap revolver which differed from earlier pistols in that it used a firing pin instead of a ball head. This new type of pistol became known as the Cavalier model due to its popularity among cavalry officers during the Napoleonic Wars (1815-1814). By 1820, most handgun manufacturers had produced their own designs based on one or more basic principles of cocking an armloaders such as this one: Cockerlock design: A hammer block is located at the breech end near where rounds are loaded into it, while another hammer block is mounted just aft of whence they exit from the system through two small gashes invetced into either side upper lip bogeys (Figure 1) . The first people to live in Sunland Park were Native American guides and scouts who accompanied Spanish troops on their exploration of New Mexico in the 16th century. In 1881, James Hance opened a store and post office in Sunland Park. He named his business after himself and developed it into an agriculturalenterprise that prospered until sales collapsed during the Great Depression. In 1936, developer Ira Sudden donated land to build a high school for Sunland Park residents. The new high school was built on land donated by Alvarado cattle rancher John Denton Jr., one of New Mexico's most prominent men and boosters of agriculture in the 1930s and 1940s. The community grew rapidly during World War II as soldiers stationed there found work in nearby munitions plants or service industries such as shipbuilding or airplane manufacturing. By 1945, Sunland Park had 4 grocery stores, 1 movie theater, 10 businesses, & over 100 residents. During the Cold War era, Sunland Park became an important defense base because its location close to Albuquerque made it easy for United States Forces to provide logistical support for operations against Cuba and other Central America nations
