The battle for Sunland Park resulted in victory for Vargas and his men, pushing back invading Mexicans and securing New Mexico's independence from Spain. In 1881, James Hays founded Hays Oil Company with land grants from president US Grant (). In 1912, he donated municipal water rights to Sunland Park residents which has continue providing essential services today. In 1927 Harry S Truman became President of America and appointed Alonzo Whitehead as Director of Public Works (). As director of public works Alonzo developed new ways to use sun energy for heating, cooling or even power generation (). Today many people living within walking distance enjoy heatedpools during summertime (), solar heatedHVAC systems () or wind turbines during wintertime (). In 1957 Jerald Culp built a small farmstead called "Apple Orchard" adjacent to what would become Sunland Park Elementary School ( later renamed "Sunland Hills Elementary School"). Culp operated a small market business outbuildings next door until his death in 1978 unable to sell enough produce indoors so he converted one side of his building into an outdoor extension/ veranda overlooking central park that still serves as a shopping center today! His wife ran grocery store operations inside their home until her death in 1995 after more than 50 years running Apple Orchard! Today there are several large grocery stores located throughout town including HEB Supermarket (Sunland Plaza), Walmart (), Safeway (), Kroger (), Albertsons ()and Trader Joe's().

Sunland Park, New Mexico is a small town located in Pinal County, Arizona. The population of Sunland Park was 3,532 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. Sunland Park is one of the oldest towns in Pinal County and was founded in 1887 by settlers from Illinois. The first post office was established in Sunland Park in 1889. Sunland Park became an incorporated city on January 1, 1912. On November 4, 1920, it merged with neighboring Tuba City to form a new municipality which continued to be named Sunland Park until it abolished its own municipal status on July 1, 1933. The last mayor of Sunland Park was Don Agerman who served from February 9, 1933 until his death on December 12 that year. The construction boom that followed World War II led to development in Sunland Park and elsewhere within the area known as "the Gold Rush Country." In 1951-1954 there were more than 100 businesses operating in Sunland Park alone; this number grew to over 200 by 1955 when gasoline rationing began and business owners had difficulty paying for fuel without meters or credits. In the late 1960s and early 1970s many residents left for greener pastures such as Phoenix or Tucson due to political instability throughout much of Latin America following military campaigns there which caused great social upheaval and loss of life (e.g., Peru's Shining Path movement). Many people who had invested money into property here during these years lost their investments during the economic downturn which followed la Guerra Fría (the Cold War). By 1978 only 10 percent of original land still remained undeveloped while most buildings were either occupied or destroyed by fire or earthquake damage sustained during those years; however some businesses have since reopened including a hardware store now operated out of a converted garage built into a house on Utopia Drive east of town square
