This area was rich in silver and other minerals, and many people traveled to this city to mine these resources. One of the first businesses to open in Silver City was a store called The Gilded Cage. This store sold items such as ammunition, hats, and other supplies for miners and their families. In 1882, a group of men from San Francisco named John Davenport opened a saloon called the Gilded Cage II on Main Street. This business served as the center of town for about a decade. It was during this time that the red dot sight became popular in Silver City because it allowed people to see at a distance what they were fighting against when they mined silver ore. In 1885, another company started up in Silver City named The Western Rifle Works. Their goal was to produce firearms using advanced technologies that had been developed by American gunmakers back east. They produced rifles and shotguns throughout most of the 1890s until World War I when they stopped production due to military restrictions on arms Manufacturers like Winchester did not start making guns again until 1929-30 which led to red dot sights becoming more popular among shooters then ever before! This boom also led to major improvements both physically and economically within Silver City – such as new roads, libraries, schools, hospitals and other infrastructure developments that have made it one of America's most heavily populated cities today. In recent decades, however, some aspects of the city's economy have begun to declines – specifically its reliance on heavy industry forjobs which has led to dwindling revenues and loss of jobs since 2000. Despite these challenges, Silver City remains an important economic center for central New Mexico thanks to its rich history and thriving community

Silver City is a small town located in southern New Mexico. The population was 1,000 at the time of the American Civil War, but had dwindled to about 350 by 1870. The town became an important slave market for the region during the early part of the 19th century. Silver City also served as a stop on stagecoach routes that traversed central New Mexico and Santa Fe. The first residents of Silver City were those who had fled Pecos County, Texas during the 1849–1850 Texan Rebellion. They arrived here in droves and began to build homes in what is now known as Old Town Square. Many of these early settlers were families of Anglo-Saxon descent and they named their town after silver mines located near Denver, Colorado. As silver prices increased in this period, so did interest in moving to Silver City from surrounding towns and counties. By 1875, its population had grown to 2,500 people; however, it continued to decline until it reached its low point around 1920 when it numbered only 100 people again. After that point it slowly grew back up until reaching its current size with over 1,000 residents by 2005). During the late 1800s and into the 1900s there was significant growth in industry within nearby Socorro County which caused a corresponding growth in population at Silver City as well (although not nearly as large). However much like most small towns throughout New Mexico during this time period there was no real public transportation or school system other than walking or horseback riding which limited access to education for many residents outside of farming families who relied upon their animals for both transportation and basic needs such as food storage and manure production (i.e., hayricks). This lack of infrastructure doomed many small towns throughout New Mexico during this time due primarily to economic stability rather than any real community development opportunities outside of agricultural pursuits (apart from some scattered housing developments built on generally abandoned ranchlands]).
