Farnam produced rifles, shotguns and pistols for many American presidents and military leaders including Ulysses S. Grant, James Buchanan and Abraham Lincoln. In 1865, Farnam partnered with Charles Goodyear to create Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, which remains one of the largest companies in the world today. The Gunfight at Adobe Walls is considered one of the deadliest engagements between settlers and Native Americans in American history. On November 27th, 1875, two weeks after an Apache warrior named Geronimo killed four white men at Adobe Walls (now part of Las Vegas), six hundred riflemen from White Sands Arsenal opened fire on a group of Indians led by Colonel John Chivington. The battle lasted three hours and ended with more than fifty Indian deaths; Chivington escaped unharmed but ten whites were killed or wounded.

Silver City is a small town in southeastern New Mexico, United States. The population was 3,491 at the 2010 census. Silver City's history dates back to 1847 when Spanish settlers founded the settlement of Santa Fe on July 17, 1847. The name "silver" originally referred to the few silver coins that had been found in the area. In 1859, General Francisco Fermín de las Casas made Silver City his headquarters for his expedition against Apache Indians in what is now Arizona and New Mexico. The town developed as a result of its location near two major silver ore deposits: the Placer Dome and Gardiner Mine fields. These mines produced an estimated 20 million lbs (10 metric tons) of silver per year from 1860 to 1870 alone- making Silver City one of the richest towns in America during this time period. However, by 1879, production at both mines had stopped due to overmining and general economic recession throughout much of America. As a result, many people moved into Silver City during this time period as it became a center for trade and commerce related to these nearby mines and other resources such as timberlands and agriculture. In 1912, Congress passed the Hatch Act which limited immigration into the United States by limiting number of immigrants per country per year to 50%. As a result, many Mexicans began moving into Silver City during this time period in order to continue their agricultural pursuits while awaiting their chance for entry into American society; however, many were not successful in assimilating fully into American culture and few continued living there after1971 when Immigration quotas were lifted following President Richard M.] Nixon's executive order " e]=importation stoppage". Today, Silver City remains an important commercial community with numerous industries including Electronics Manufacturing & Distributing Company (EMD), Prime Beef Sales Co., Datamax Telecommunications Inc., Dr Pepper Snapple Group beverages operations etc., among others; however its most notable feature may be its significant Hispanic population which has kept much of downtownSpanish-speaking until recently barrio alive despite efforts by city officials over recent years ε=]ε=]ε=]ε]
Silver City is the seat of government for Silver County, New Mexico. The town was founded in 1867 by James H. Baird and others as a trading post on the Rio Grande. It grew rapidly during the late 1800s and early 1900s as a result of its location on the railway line between Albuquerque and Phoenix. The population reached 5,000 in 1909, but declined to 2,500 by 1930 due to shifting economic activity and immigration from Mexico into the area. However, it regained some of its former population growth during World War II when United States manufacturers relocated their plants there to produce munitions. The city experienced another period of rapid growth during the 1960s and 1970s as a result of visits from recreationalists looking for wild-west style living. In recent years,Silver City has been experiencing declines in its population due to increased migration to other areas within New Mexico and Arizona.
