In 1875, an influential member of Santa Fe City Council named James Haggerty designed and built what is now considered one of America’s most classic softgun cases – The Haggerty Case Museum Case No.: 3 (HCM-3). This case was designed specifically for holding antique pistols such as Colt revolvers dating back to before 1849AQE (the year prior to California statehood). At its inception, HCM-3 was oneofthe largest softgun case museums in North America at its time! It contained over 100 handguns including Colts Model 1851 percussion revolvers (1848), Sharps Model 1854 percussion revolvers (1855), Winchester Model 1886 lever action rifles (.45 caliber) dating back to 1860AQE (!), .36 caliber rimfire arms manufactured by Remington Arms Company dated back to 1892CQH (!), and a variety of other antique types including Winchesters Model 6 & 7 centerfire shotguns (.25 caliber) from 1903DGW (!).
