In 1846–1847 during the Mexican-American War various forts were destroyed byMexican forces as part of an effort to capture strategic sites across New Mexico Territory so that they could be used as military posts by General Antonio López de la Peña y Costilla with intentions of driving out American settlers who had relocated there since before Spanish settlement began in this region (Albuquerque). In 1853 local resident Alvarado Ugarte donated land near what is now Old Town to become one block wide between Seventh Street (the main business street) and Eighth Street (across from Pacific Ballroom), becoming known as Ugarte Park after him. This area became known as “El Campo” or “The Field” because it was where journalists would hold meetings about news stories ready for publication before Newspaper Row lit up with newsboys bringing editions to subscribers on horseback outside). When Market Square opened in nearby Plaza de Armas in 1865 officials decided that El Campo should house City Hall instead because it was closer to most businesses while plaza would be larger and better suited for public ceremonies such as mayoral inaugurations. On November 15th 1870 Wm Millington set up his establishment southeast corner Second Ave Nw., bounded by First Ave W., Utah St., E 4th St., thence along 3d Ave Nw corner E 5th St [to] Gulf St SE], thence due north along Rio Grande River unto Post Office Rd [to]…. November 16 th 1870 Abelardo Ortiz set up hisestablishment northwest corner Second Ave Nw……….. ]. On December 12 th 1870 Josefina Castro arrived from Cuba with her husband José Castro Jr.. They set up their establishment east side 2nd Ave NE……….. ]. Finally on January 15 th 1876 Don Dieguez arrived from Guatemala with his family Dragoon mule team discovered gold nuggets at Placerita Mine NW near present day TrinidadNE.] All these establishments were eventually replaced or closed down but their legacy still lives on today thanks To locals like Abelardo Ortiz who continue setting up new stores every decade!]

In 1819–20 Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Annaordered an expedition up the Rio Grande to explore new territory west of Texas but didn’t find any worthwhile land beyond Texas proper. A few years later he ordered Major Antonio Armijo to explore east of Socorro Mountains looking for a route into California but found no sign of a path onto that continent either. López de Santa Anna then decided on this area as his new personal hunting ground and began issuing orders for expeditions into this unclaimed territory called Chihuahua Deserts which included present-day southern New Mexico and parts of Arizona and Colorado

During the standoff that ensued, two of the Hidalgos were killed and their father was critically injured. The city's name comes from this event: San Felipe de Albuquerque (Saint Felipe of Albuquerque). The city experienced significant growth during Reconstruction following World War II. In 1957, Santa Fe became one of only four cities in New Mexico to receive federal funding for economic development initiatives known as "urban renewal". This program helped create new jobs and expand shopping districts throughout downtownSantaFeandthe surrounding neighborhoods. As part of this effort, Fannie Mae donated land near Interstate 25 for an airport; the current airport opened in 1978. In recent years, several high-profile events have taken place within or around Santa Fe: including protests against corporate greed and climate change; demonstrations against gun Violence; concerts by popular music artists such as Taylor Swift and Lorde; and presidential inaugurations/inaugural balls including Barack Obama's in 2009 and Donald Trump's in 2017.
