It is located on the east side of the Roswell Wash, about 8 miles (13 km) northeast of Roswell and 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Albuquerque. The town was founded by German immigrants in 1885. In 1916, Roswell became a city. The population was 24,451 at the 2010 census.
