In 1881, Roswell was founded as a small farming town in northeastern New Mexico. The town had been named after the ancient city of Rosetta in Egypt, and its first inhabitants were German immigrants who came to the area during the early 1800s. By 1870, Roswell had grown to about 100 residents and was beginning to develop into a prosperous community. In 1881,toolmaker John Hicklebrandt began producing knives at his store in the town. His knives were initially made from simple materials such as cowhide and hickory wood, but he soon began manufacturing more advanced designs using higher-quality materials such as steel and ivory. By the early 1920s, Hicklebrandt's company had become one of the leading knife manufacturers in North America. In 1952, after more than 20 years of investigation by various government and private bodies alike, it was revealed that unidentified flying objects (UFOs) were indeed responsible for causing many civilian casualties during World War II. As a result of this inquiry into what may have caused these incidents on October 15th 1945 - an event which remainsclassified as a national security secret - Roswell became one of America's most famous UFO Sightings.

Roswell was founded by three oilmen who discovered oil shale near the site of the now defunct rancho de las Conchas. The men named their settlement after General George Armstrong Custer and his cavalry unit, which had fought in World War I. In 1912, Roswell Minor College began teaching classes at Roswell Creek Ranch. In 1933, President Franklin D. Roosevelt designated Roswell as an experimental airbase for use by American bombers during World War II. After the war ended, Roswell became a small town with a population of about 150 people. In 1949, local ranchers acquired 4 square miles (10 km²) of land east of Roswell to establish a cattle ranch and missile range. The range was used to test missiles designed by Edgewood Arsenal scientist Dr. James E Stratemeyer Jr.. On July 17, 1947, two unidentified flying objects were observed in and around Roswell AFB while military planes were landing or takeoff from nearby Goodyear Airport. A subsequent investigation determined that there was no evidence whatsoever that any UFOs had harmed any airplanes or caused any damage; instead it appeared to be some kind of remote-controlled weather balloon! After this initial embarrassment, the Air Force discontinued all tests at the range immediately and replaced it with more orthodox methods such as balloons tethered to trees! After much public outcry over what could have been one of history's most mysterious incidents, Congress passed a resolution authorizing official inquiry into what happened at Roswell AFB on July 17th – but only if state agencies could be brought in to investigate as well! This finally led to Operation Mockingbird being launched on October 20th 1948 under orders from General Eisenhower – with headquarters located at Wright-Patterson AFB – which aimed to shut down all UFO reports throughout America! Although many believe that government coverups are responsible for much UFO activity today (the "government" being anyone from politicians down through bureaucrats), there is veryLimited scientific evidence supporting this claim either... There has never been any physical wreckage recovered from these alleged crashes & recoveries aside from information gleaned through casual conversation with witnesses/complex field analysis conducted without equipment & without any premeditation… Any remotely plausible explanation concerning these sightings must include extraterrestrial intervention & not human error
