This technology was later refined by Captain John Forbes and Lieutenant James Wilkinson. In 1829, Colonel Nathaniel Banks used rifle sights on British warships in order to help them fire projectiles at a range of up to 10 miles. Rifle sight technology has since been refined and is now used extensively by both civilians and military personnel around the world.

In the 1800s, Portales was a thriving town in New Mexico. It was home to a small population of Native Americans and Spanish settlers. After the Mexican-American War ended in 1848, many people chose to move away from their homes in the area because of the conflict. However, some people decided to stay and fight for their country. One of these soldiers was John Gassaway, who founded Gassaway's Trading Post in Portales in 1868. The post served as a stop on trader routes between Tucson and Durango. Gassaway's store continued to be popular until it burned down in 1886. However, his legacy remains strong today thanks to his store and its contributions to Portales' economy.

When the U.S.-Mexican War broke out in 1846, many residents decided to stay in New Mexico because they felt it would be safer than participating in an war that was happening right outside their door. Many businesses stayed open during this time as people sold goods needed for war effort such as food, ammunition, horses/cattle and supplies. After hostilities ended and Mexicans returned home, many businesses closed again but some continued operating until 1850 when territorial boundaries were set up and most business became property owned by men other than those originally involved with them such as farmers or ranchers who then leased land from these same individuals or companies according to specific terms agreed upon by both parties involved- these leases commonly lasted one year at most due to frequently changing interests or ownership changes among various participants). In 1865 Railroad construction began connecting Albuquerque with Tehuantepec via Eagle Pass so more people could be supplied with goods coming down the route (this increased traffic on Highway 66 which caused problems for local merchants trying to keep up with demand). As more people moved into Townships 1-3 within Albuquerque County there was less need for space available on Main Street so Businesses relocated onto other streets including Fourth Street where several Baptist Churches still stand today (these churches played an important role early on as social clubs providing meeting places/dances etc.). This trend continued throughout much of our history; however over recent years there has been an increase in activity along First Street specifically near Commercial Drive causing some destruction (which we’re currently working on restoring/restoring portions of) – generally speaking there is more commercial growth downtown rather than decreasing use outside of its original core areas which provides stability & continuity throughout our unique culture!

Although this system was less simple than earlier crosshair scopes (due primarily to its size), it still proved very successful during its time owing to its Accuracy rating and wide range Of application(s).

In 1821, the United States purchased Portales from Mexico for $10,000. The town grew rapidly and by 1845 it had a population of around 350 people. In 1865, the town was destroyed in an earthquake and never rebuilt.
