The history of firearms in Portales, New Mexico dates back to the early 1800s. The first guns in the area were fashioned from animal hides and wood, and were used for hunting and protection. In 1881, a group of settlers named Goodwin founded the town of Portales on the east bank of the Rio Grande. The town was established as a trading post and soon became an important center for gunsmithing and firearm manufacturing. In addition to producing firearms, the town also produced beer, cattle, potatoes, butter and other goods. Gun owners in Portales enjoyed relative peace and tranquility until 1904 when a series of bombings occurred throughout the city that left many people dead or injured. These events made it necessary for Texas Congressman Garnett Moulton to sponsor legislation creating new regulations governing handguns within New Mexico. This law required all handgun owners to get a state-issued license and carry their weapons only inside their homes or within 150 feet of any public place. Today, Portales is one of the most vibrant towns in western New Mexico with its rich cultural heritage dating back to pioneer days. Legally, handguns were only allowed to be possessed by citizens who met certain requirements such as owning a rifle or shotguns, being of legal age, and having proof of insurance on your person

Portales, New Mexico is a small town located in northeastern Arizona. The population was 1,878 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Apache and Pima counties. The first settlers in Portales were traders who came from the northern part of Mexico. They started trading with the Native American peoples and selling goods such as food, clothing, and guns. By 1800, the port had become a major center for trade in northeast Arizona because of its location on the Colorado River. In 1827, General Antonio López de Santa Anna founded Fort Tejanco on what is now called San Miguel Avenue in Portales to control traffic along this important trade route. Fort Tejanco served as a military post until it was abandoned in 1839 due to Mexican War hostilities nearby. In 1867, Governor Avila designated Portales an agricultural center because of its importance as a crossroads for wagon trains traveling between Tucson and Prescott. This led to increased prosperity for the town because farmers could sell their products directly to consumers instead of having to go through other merchants. The growth of agriculture also allowed for more housing development and helped make Portales one of the most populous towns in northeast Arizona by 1900. During World War II, Portales became an important embarkation point for troops stationed in northwest Arizona Territory because it was close to bases at Nogalpa and White Sands Naval Air Station (now Holloman AFB). Businesses that grew during wartime included trucking companies and meatpacking plants that manufactured food products like beef and pork from local hides or buffalo meat. After the war ended, many businesses closed down due to economic recessionary conditions which affected much of northeast Arizona including Portales specifically. In recent years, however, there has been some resurgence around retail businesses such as restaurants and stores that have helped revive downtown areas around town while still accommodating smaller businesses within walking distance from all residents alike

Portales, New Mexico is a small town located in the Gallup Penitentiary District of New Mexico. The population was 536 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albuquerque metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1867 by Captain James Waddell and his wife Annie Potts. The Waddells were looking for land to farm after leaving Santa Fe following the Mexican-American War. They first settled on what is now east side of US-60 near where the town now stands. In 1870, they built a log cabin and named it Fort Worth because they'd heard that President Ulysses S. Grant had established a military post there named Fort Worth in Texas. In 1865, Portales’s first school opened with ten students and four teachers from Milkweed School District No. 2 in Gallup." From its beginnings as an agricultural community, Portales has continued to grow through industry and education; currently, it has over fifty businesses and several thousand residents." The first Europeans to reach the area now known as Portales were Spanish explorers in 1540. The region was part of Mexico before American independence was granted in 1821. In 1830, a group of Mormon missionaries traveled through the area and founded a small town called Nauvoo, Illinois. In 1847, Mormons from Utah started arriving in the region and establishing settlements. A fort was built at what is now called Fort Worth in 1849 to protect these settlers from Apaches. The town gradually grew and became a major center for trade and commerce in the region. By 1870, Portales had become an important commercial center with warehouses, mills, and other businesses. In 1865, after Mexican President Santa Anna ordered all European-owned land in Texas be seized for redistribution to Mexicans,Portales became one of the few towns within Mexican territory to resist this order. Following its victory over Mexico during the Texas Revolution that year, Portales began expanding into Urita County and established a new town there named Provo on November 11th of that year.
