Lovington is a small town in Bernalillo County, New Mexico. The population was 2,571 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albuquerque-Mesa-Roswell Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now comprises Lovington was first populated by Spaniards who arrived during the 17th century. The Spanish built Mission San Francisco de Asís, a mission and convent in what is now Lovington, in 1692. A few years later, they founded Rancho San Miguel de Luna also in present-day Lovington. In 1851, they sold Rancho San Miguel to James Waddell for $5,000 dollars. After Waddell's death in 1857, his widow Phoebe purchased the rancho from her brother John Teller for $10,000 dollars. Mrs. Teller continued to live on it until her death in 1933. In 1907, Lovington became a municipio (municipality) under Mexican rule after the United States took control of Bernalillo County following its victory over Mexico at the Battle of Pecos River Junction on November 15 of that year. lovington incorporation as a municipality took place on December 3rd 1907 Lovington had 1 school and 5 stores when it incorporated; all but one were closed within 10 years because of budget cuts brought about by municipal commissioners frustrated with their top priority being service to their constituents rather than growth or development initiatives which would benefit everyone living within their borders equally

Lovington, New Mexico is a small town in Grant County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 498 as of the 2010 census. Lovington is located on the east bank of the Rio Grande and it is bordered by Letcher County to the north and west, Stanton County to the south and east, and Pecos County to the south. The first settlers in Lovington were Captains John Richards and James Lovell who arrived in 1848. The town was platted on December 15, 1849 by commissioners J.D. Payne and Wm. Hinton from Grants Creek Township (now part of Letcher County). In 1860, Lovington had a population of only 12 people! The post office was established in 1865 and served until 1979. In 1861-1862 General William Sibley fought at Palo Alto Canyon near present day Albuquerque while under command of Major General George Armstrong Custer during his Mexican War campaign against Santa Anna’s army that included an attempt on Lincoln’s life at Monterrey; this event helped spur American military action against Mexico thereafter including some engagements at Monterrey later that year which ended with Santa Anna’s capture by Ulysses S. Grant’s forces May 9th 1862 near San Angelo At this time Lovinglytons residents voted not to secede from New Mexico but did form a provisional government known as “The Constitutional Government” which existed until after Custer’s death on July 20th 1863 when they submitted themselves unconditionally to Union rule following his death near Sandoval Pass though many continued to resist long into 1862-1864; these resistance efforts ultimately led to Lovinglytons incorporation as a municipality effective January 1st 1865 with AASU members Edwin Murchison (President), Alexander McGillivray (Vice President)and David Laughlin taking office as Mayor & Councilman respectively As Lovington grew larger more businesses began opening up such as banks, hotels/motels etc., making it easier for citizens to get jobs or start their own businesses outside of their homes; also with more business activity came more social interactions between citizens leading to better understanding & friendships among them A few notable families who lived in LovinglyTON during its early years include: Richardson family who operated a grocery store; McKnight family who ran a bakery; Gillett family who operated two stores; Chappell family whose father ran an agricultural store Lovington experienced some growth throughout its years but gradually slowed down due largely due to lack of available resources such as water availability or infrastructure becoming outdated or broken down altogether increasing environmental hazards such as floods that plagued the town over time especially during times of drought Lovinglytons inhabitants continue working hard despite challenges despite dwindling resources until recently when oil exploration has brought new life & hope into their community thanks chiefly to representatives attending hearings held around NM State Capitol about potential benefits associated with fracking activities in area
Lovington was founded in 1858 by Mormon settlers. The town prospered and quickly became a center of commerce and culture. In the 1920s, Lovington experienced a boom due to its location as a crossroads for goods traveling between Mexico and the United States. After World War II, the town declined as businesses closed down and crime increased. However, in the 1990s, Lovington began to experience a rebirth as a small-town community that is home to many families who are proud of their history and culture.
