The economy has changed dramatically since then; today Lovington is known for its agricultural products such as corn, beans, cottonseed oil, cheese, flour tortillas, milk powder, honeybees (which are used to make pollination services), applesauce (a type of preserves), chili (a type of food served at restaurants), and several types of golf courses including one designed by Billy Payne who also built Payne Park Golf Course in nearby Albuquerque which now attracts professional players like Greg Norman There have also been several waves of immigrants to Lovington over the years: Italians in the1920s; Mexicans during World War II; Jamaicans during the late 1960s/early 1970s; Greeks in the early 1980s; Poles during 1992-1994; Hispanics from Central America during 2006-2008 One significant change that has occurred recently is that there has been an increase in African Americans moving into town from rural areas throughout New Mexico. This trend began about 10 years ago when Black individuals first started moving into nearby Gallup Village which had become increasingly black due to increased economic opportunities within Gallup County after vowing not to leave following passage of Proposition 187 which limited voter rights for Mexican nationals living inside U.S.-Mexico borders The influx began slowly but gradually grew more intense over time until there were now large numbers of African Americans living in both Lovington and surrounding communities overall
