By 1970, however, Lovington had lost most of its manufacturing jobs to Interstate 25 construction northward and experienced rapid suburban growth—resulting in declining property values and shrinking tax base that has made it one of New Mexico's poorest communities since 1990s lows caused by economic crash followed by state bankruptcy filings among other things In 2006-2007 there was some redevelopment taking place on Main Street between Second Avenue South and Third Avenue South which included new housing units along with businesses that would be used by residents such as restauranteur doing catering services etc... which led to increased traffic congestion around this intersection due to people spawning out from all directions trying to get through main street onto I-25
