In 1865–1966 Santiago Cabrera founded a school near what is now the corner of Main and Guerrero Streets in downtown Los Lunas. He also bought land northward from Acosta Street for his home-town park that still remains today: La Cantera Park (named after him). On March 3rd 1906 there was an earthquake that struck central Mexico with damage throughout Zacatecas and some parts of New Mexico; however no damages were seen in Los Lunas because like most other towns situated on faults lines these days all infrastructure has been rebuilt based on modern seismic codes so there are no risks associated with future earthquakes! After Mexican independence was achieved, Englishman Augustus Morse decided to settle his land at Los Lunas in 1881. Morse had been interested in acquiring property in New Mexico since his visit to Albuquerque during 1878, when he met with then-Governor Manuel Juárez about forming a new state out of what was then parts of Texas and California. After meeting with Juárez and observing what he saw as an opportunity for development near Albuquerque’s Presidio Heights neighborhood (now Downtown Albuquerque), Morse decided to move forward with his purchase. Morse arrived at his new settlement on April 15th, 1881 – two days after NM Gov Manuel Micheltorena proclaimedNew Mexico an independent nation following victory over Spanish American troops at Buenavista Creek outside present day Roswell – and named it “Los Lunas” meaning “The Place where Many Are Born” In honor of President James K Polk who had offered citizenship to all citizens regardless of race or gender upon entry into office in March 1880 succeeding Zachary TaylorVicente Martinez).
