Los Lunas is a town in New Mexico, United States. The population was 1,957 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pueblo Grande city-county government. The town was founded by Tomás de la Hoz in 1695 as part of Rancho Luna. In 1881, it was named after José Estrada Luna, an early Spanish settler who had bought land there from the Ponderosa Mining and Refining Company. He donated most of his holdings to the school district which then renamed it Los Lunas High School in 1927. In 1951, Los Lunas became a municipality and has since grown to include much of northeastern New Mexico including much of Las Cruces County. In 1912, a group of businessmen led by Commodore Edward J. Smith established the Albuquerque–Santa Fe Railway through Los Lunas on their way to Santa Fe with plans for railroad traffic to increase commerce within and outside Pueblo Grande City Limits (PGBL). The first train passed through Los Lunas on November 5th 1912; this event marked what would become known as "the day that civilization reached our village." A number of businesses were opened in Los Lunas during these years such as grocery stores, hardware stores, schools and churches which quickly began providing essential services to residents throughout the city limits area including neighboring villages such as Roswell and Carlsbad. These business proprietors established themselves with various names until 1892 when they all came together under one name - Consolidated Businesses - Incorporated v/s Pueblo Grande City Limits et al.. This landmark case saw many new businesses open up in downtown LAUNAS while also stopping any restrictions on business activity being placed upon PGBL residents only bylaws establishing regulations governing local trade within its borders only! As more businesses started up throughout LAUNAS things got even busier with people commuting into town each day for work or recreation! However starting around 1920 things slowed down somewhat due mainly to World War I veteran retrenchment once again hittingLAUNAS hard but slowly some new businesses cropped up giving people hope for better days ahead... however soon reality set in once again with manyLocals returning back home following World War II opportunities lost during European involvement! AllThings considered though things have definitely improved since those halcyon days long ago when Downtown LAUNAS boasted several high end hotels & nightclubs along Main Street sandwiched between two busy shopping malls complete with their own movie theaters etcetera
