Los Lunas experienced significant growth following the opening of Interstate 35 two years ago that has helped spur development around the village center including new housing developments and a nearby college campus

Los Lunas is a small town in New Mexico located about an hour south of Albuquerque. The population was 1,873 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rio Grande Valley region. The first inhabitants of Los Lunas were the Pueblo de Taos, who were displaced by Comanche and Kiowa Indians in 1795. Spanish settlers arrived in 1827 and began to populate Los Lunas with refugees from Santa Fe. The town's name comes from a legend that tells of two men fighting a giant luna (moon) on the banks of the Rio Grande. After defeating the moon, they founded Los Lunas as their new home. Los Lunas experienced growth during both World War I and World War II; it served as a troop depot for both services and also became known for its cowboys and horses. In 1957, Los Lunas became one of ninety towns in New Mexico designated as part of the Navajo Nation; it has since maintained its own government structure unique to Navajo people. Today, Los Lunas continues to be a vibrant community with strong ties to its cultural heritage and history – including its annual Lucha Libre Festival, which celebrates Mexican wrestling culture; as well as its restaurant scene, which features many locally-owned businesses
Los Lunas is a town in Apache County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. The first people to live in Los Lunas were the Pecos Indians who arrived in 1842. They built their own settlement on what is now the south side of Main Street. In 1868, the town was named for General Manuel Luna y Costilla, who had fought against California during the Mexican-American War. A post office operated from 1870 until it was discontinued in 1902. In 1904, Los Lunas became part of Fronteriza and later Cibola County when those counties were created from parts of Apache and Nuevo León Counties. The post office remained open until it was discontinued in 1912. In 1916, a fire destroyed most of the town's buildings and killed 54 people; however, due to help from local firefighters and volunteers, most of the buildings were repaired or rebuilt within five months. In 1944–1945, World War II saw an increase in civilian traffic as area residents helped support military efforts by supplying goods and services such as food and gasoline to troops stationed in nearby Albuquerque and Phoenix. As more civilians returned home after the war ended, they began rebuilding their towns with new construction techniques which improved urban life throughout New Mexico during this time period; Los Lunas experienced its first growth spurt following this period of development. As recently as 2002–2003 there was continued growth potential for Los Lunas with plans being made to add a shopping center onto what is currently known as "The Square" site on Main Street where several small businesses have been clustered over time including Applebees BBQ & Grill (2004), Rosario's Pizza (2005), La Fonda del Rio Mexicali (2006) and Fiesta Mexicana Diner (2007). However no progress has been made since then so far
