In 1876, Eliza J. Grant and her husband, Jesse Grant, founded the town of Los Lunas on a piece of BLM land in central New Mexico. The Grants named the community after their Rancho Lunas in San Miguel County, California. The Grants struggled to make a living from their small ranch and sold other assets to support the town’s growth. In 1886, they donated $10,000 to build the first school in Los Lunas. In 1912, they donated $50,000 more to help build a new library and bell tower in Los Lunas. In 1916, they added another $100,000 for development projects within the town limits. By 1923-24 (the late 1800s), Los Lunas had an estimated population of 1,600 people and was home to two churches and one post office.
Los Lunas, New Mexico is a small town in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. It is located on the banks of the Rio Grande, about 40 miles east of Ciudad Juárez. The population was 1,500 as of 2010. The town was founded in 1881 by José Antonio Mansilla and his wife Maria de la Concha y Mansilla. They named it after their home country, La Luneta, in present-day Spain. The Mansillas were part of the Opal Mining Company and owned over 20 square miles (50 km²) of land around Los Lunas. They raised chickens and pigs and grew corn, beans, wheat and other crops on their land until 1910 when they sold all their assets to Pemex for $1 million dollars. Today, most people in Los Lunas are descendants of those who founded the town or its predecessor communities. Many businesses still operate in Los Lunas including a grocery store and several churches which serve as social clubs for residents. There are also some private businesses such as a hangar used by the local air force for storage purposes. The nearest city is Ciudad Juárez which has a population of over 30 million people and is one of Mexicali's largest metropolitan areas with an estimated GDP worth $20 billion yearly according to 2015 estimates). In addition to its commercial importance, Ciudad Juárez is also home to many universities including UNAM (the largest university system in Mexico), Iberoamerican University and Tecnologico de Monterrey among others

Los Lunas is a small town located in the Mexican state of New Mexico. The community was founded by Father Francisco Lopez on December 17, 1847 during the Mexican-American War as part of a land grant to José María Castro. The town has been inhabited by Native American people for over two centuries and is currently populated by Puebloans. The first developer to come to Los Lunas was José Baca in 1865. He built an irrigation canal that allowed him to make a fortune from farming produce in the area. Other early settlers included Miguel de la Hoya and Manuel Vasquez. In 1881, Judge Nelson Ayer purchased the majority of the land around Los Lunas from José Baca and donated it to the New Mexico Territory government in order to create what would become Albuquerque. In 1912, President Theodore Roosevelt declared New Mexico an open territory and granted its residents voting rights. This led to increased development around Los Lunas, which saw increasing numbers of Latinos arrive here during this time period. By 1966, there were more than 1,000 Latinos living in Los Lunas alone. Due to its close proximity to Albuquerque and cultural similarities with Hispanic immigrants living there at the time, many Mexicans began calling Los Lunas "Aldea Mexicana". This name stuck until after World War II when Anglo Americans started referring to both groups as " indistinguishable" Hispanics without giving any weighting towards one or the other group's historical significance within New Mexico society. "Los Lunas: A History for All," written by historian Toni Morrison Cordero-Wright (New Mexico State University), tells the story of how Latinos have played an important role in shaping aspects of local culture throughout history including music, fashion, art and food since their arrival here millennium ago. Additionally, Morales' research indicates that Latino immigrants who have settled down relocated here permanently have helped contribute significantly both economically and culturally even after leaving home altogether; often times taking on new identities while making new friends along their way."
In 1847, the property that is now Los Lunas was acquired by José Antonio Menéndez from the Pecos Indian tribe. The Menéndez family soon began to cultivate and sell crops on the land. In 1865, they built a large home on their property, which served as a headquarters for their farm operations. In 1903, Manuel Menéndez organized the first cattle drive in New Mexico Territory. The men took advantage of good weather conditions to travel across New Mexico and Arizona looking for quality beef. They encountered many obstacles along the way, including hostile Indians and difficult terrain. However, in 1906 they finally reached Prescott and sold their herd of cattle to Einar Wegener of Germany for $1,500. The men continued to farm and ranch until their death in 1923. When Los Lunas was annexed by Albuquerque in 1912, much of what is now owned by the city was annexed from the Menéndez estate including most of its cultivated land and homes.
