Hobbs and his family, which operated for over 100 years until it closed its doors in 1984. In 1984, the store reopened as the Premiere Supermarket chain store in Hobbs with an emphasis on fresh food and limited selection of other items from other stores within its network across New Mexico and Arizona.} The store closed again in 1995 but reopened as The Gourmand Gourmet Store later that year} In 2006, The Gourmand Gourmet Store merged with Enchiladas Mexican restaurant} In 2011, Enchiladas Mexican restaurant relocated to 5th Avenue NE near State High School} In 1899, Obadiah Morse moved to Hobbs from Deming, New Mexico after purchasing land east of the city limits of Deming he would develop into what would become Mesa Verde National Park
In 1881, Charles F. Hobbs founded the town of Hobbs in New Mexico Territory. The town was named after him and was located on the east bank of the Rio Grande between present-day Ciudad Juárez and Chihuahua City. In 1895, Hobbs sold his interest in the town to J.P. Stockwell, who renamed it Hobbs City. In 1902, Hobbs City merged with other towns in New Mexico Territory to form the city of Albuquerque.
