In the early 1800s, Hobbs was a small settlement on the banks of the Rio Grande in New Mexico. The town had a population of about 20 people and was known for its military skills. The town's fortifications were designed to protect it from Indian raids. A group of miners founded Hobbs in 1868. They began extract coal from the nearby hills and discovered gold soon after. In 1871, an American company established a mining camp in Hobbs and started extracting silver ore from the local hills. The company also built a mill in 1872 that produced flour, sugar, bacon, butter, coffee and other goods for local markets. The mine ran out of silver soon after and closed down in 1875; however, it reopened as a mill in 1903 due to increased demand for flour and other goods brought by new settlers who arrived during that time period. By 1908, there were over 100 residents living in Hobbs. Hobbs experienced some growth through World War I when the United States entered into conflict with Germany; however, it declined following the war because of high taxes levied on production caused by wartime necessities such as munitions manufacturing. In 1931-1932, Hobbs voted to become part of Nuevo León County; however, this decision did not last very long because New Mexico Statehood occurred two years later and Nuevo León County became part of that state rather than New Mexico. In 1948-1949, Gobierno de México invited American ranchers who had settled near Santa Fe to establish ranchos en el corral (open areas) along the Río Grande so they could use their land for grazing purposes rather than farming it out to Mexicans; however, this proposal did not gain much traction among locals because most residents saw themselves as farmers who used their land for grazing purposes only while Mexican cattleboys grazed on their pasturelands without any compensation or sharecropping arrangement between them and farmers/ ranchers. This situation changed after President José Lusián Gomez decided to open up all aspects of life within Mexican territory which led to more ranching activity at internal government levels across all parts of Mexico where livestock was now being raised commercially instead of just being used by farmers/ ranchers pursuant to customary agreement between them and Mexicans prior to independence (see Texas Revolution). As a result of this changeover at federal levels within Mexican territory things changed rapidly within Hobbers since most people no longer viewed ranching activities as exclusively confined solely within Mexican boundaries butrather viewed them both patriotically (because these activities reflected good nationalism), economically (because cattle production now became more profitable due to decreased expenses associated with traditional agriculture) and socially (because many people now had access to better transportation routes which allowed easier access bothto marketplaces located inland while allowing easy trade with other countries due thereto)

Hobbs, New Mexico is a small town located in the San Juan County seat of Hobbs. The population was 2,854 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of New Mexico and Arizona. The land that now makes up Hobbs was first populated by Paleo-Indians. An archaeological site dating back to 9000 BC has been found in the town. The Puebloan people were the first to arrive in what is now Hobbs, setting up homes around AD 1500. Their culture left behind many distinctive features including pottery and stone tools which have been discovered throughout the area today. After the Spanish arrived in 1540 they began exploration of this area and soon established settlements such as Santa Fe, Placerville and Roswell on present day Hobbs land. These early settlers quickly realized that this area had potential for agriculture because of its natural resources such as watermelons, corn and beans. In 1760 Spain ceded much of New Mexico to France under cede agreement between Spain and France which specified that no French person or group should possess more than 25% of any given region including New Mexico however due to political unrest within France over this issue numerous parcels were sold back to Spain with no Indian occupants until after Mexican independence in 1821 when all land west of Rio Grande became part of newly independent Mexico under military rule known as la raja de NuevoMexico y el Colorado (the new Mexican Empire). In 1847 an act was passed by Congress providing for a civil government in southeastern NM with precincts extending into Arizona &New Mexico Territory; establishment hereof included $10,000 donation from Don Carlos Manuel Simón who also donated land near Roswell for school purposes only years later becoming one of our most distinguished citizens from these parts – one hundredth anniversary year ago! This donating Father did so without compensation & went about his good work selflessly throughout his lifetime – an example we can learn from! In 1861 during Apache Wars fought against US forces led by General Grant various villages/towns along Trail 92 southwestward towards Tucson came together inviting US military forces onto their properties pretexting need for provisions etc.–fortunately there wasn’t really anything edible or strategic nearby but it sure made some folks happy 🙂 As hostilities continued Apache raiding parties raiders raiding into California passing through Albuquerque so stores got stocked up tight on canned goods & other items prior to finally moving out again couple weeks later when peace negotiations began resulting in Apaches signing Treaty Of Biarritz surrendering all weapons & property east side OF BIAARQUITZ! After corresponding with General Kearny via telegraph he dispatched Cavalry Unit “A” bridge crossing CONUS arriving 3 days prior at Tuba City then continuing further downrange on 11th march 1865 enroute To HermosilloArizona (& Chihuahua) finally reaching Huachuca Valley 9 days later having covered a total distance = 323 miles! What an amazing feat accomplished by just three men using horses only! No artillery allowed but mountain guns could have easily done same job had they been available 😉 Today we enjoy access to trails system providing plenty amenities including wi-fi internet service allowing easy monitoring while exploring !! The first post office was established at Hobbs in 1881; it moved to its current location in 1893. The first school was built in 1888; it moved to its present location in 1903. In 1915, the population of Hobbs was estimated at 350 inhabitants. A courthouse and jail were built at Hobbs during World War I; they were destroyed by a fire in 1919. A new courthouse and jail were built at nearby Deming during World War II; they were also destroyed by a fire. HobBS has won several awards including being one ofAmerica's "10 Best Small Towns" (2006) and "Best Place To Work" (2008).
