Today, the old school building still stands as part of the local government building which houses all municipal offices including that forobbying purposes; however, it no longer functions as a schoolhouse as it has been converted into office space. The post office which served Hudsons from 1886 until 1912 was renamed “Hobbs” in 1916 after James A., Sr.'s son, John W., Jr.. It was reactivated on October 12th, 1947 by then-Mayor Harry Laughlin with mail service continuing until 1971 due to lack of another post office within reach at that time; however, because there were only three towns in New Mexico with ZIP codes (72010 through 72011), both Hudsons and Tomball received their own ZIP codes beginning February 1st 1959 so that mail service ended once again within Dobson County boundaries effective February 1st 1961. At its peak during World War II there were over 25 operators providing delivery service within seventy five miles of hereabouts; however because most people living hereabouts either worked or farm they never received any postal deliveries whatsoever! Consequently today only twopackages per day (and approximately one third of all package traffic) arrives at our village well before 6 PM!! Today's economy is based largely upon agriculture although some industries which have begun arriving recently include manufacturing (light trucking), construction (building materials), tourism (which includes golf courses/resorts) and retail trade such as those found in larger towns such as Gallup or Las Cruces but very little employment exists outside these specific sectors other than social assistance programs provided by churches throughout the community
