When the first Americans arrived in Hobbs, New Mexico, they were immediately welcomed with open arms. The land was rich in wildlife and minerals, and the people were friendly and welcoming. This community thrived for many years, until a series of events changed everything. In 1876, two men named John Wesley Dobson and James Waddell traveled from Oklahoma to prospect for gold in what is now New Mexico. They decided to settle in what is now Hobbs because it was close to a river that could be used for transportation to find gold. Soon after coming to town, the men met another group of settlers who also started looking for gold. These new residents didn’t welcome the newcomers with open arms - instead, they began yelling at them and attack them when they came across any animals or crops that weren’t theirs. Eventually, things got out of hand and violence erupted between the two groups of people. In addition to being attacked by other settlers, John Wesley Dobson also had his throat cut by one of these attackers while he was working on his farm nearby. This event led to a decrease in population in Hobbs as people began moving away from the area due to safety concerns. However, this community wasn't done disappearing; it continued living quietly under cover until around 1912 when an oil well was discovered near town and production quickly increased which caused more problems between the locals and those working at the well site

Hobbs, New Mexico is a small town in the Mexican state of Baja California. The population was 1,551 at the 2000 census. Hobbs is located on the edge of the White Sands National Monument. The townsite was laid out by José Maria Hobbs in 1881 and named for him. It has been said that he was inspired to name his settlement after John Fenton, who had provided him with most of the land where it now stands. The first inhabitants of Hobbs were Spanish soldiers who arrived during the Mexican-American War in 1846. They built a fort here and continued to live here until 1870, when they all left for Chihuahua City because of an American military campaign against Mexico known as The Gold Rush. The first settlers were men from San Bernardino County, California; these men came overland through Arizona and New Mexico Territory before reaching what is now Hobbs on July 25, 1881. Most of these people were Indians who had Already settled in this area before independence from Spain occurred in 1821. When José Maria Hobbs moved into his new community, he chose to adopt English as his speech language since he felt that it would be more accessible to potential settlers and others who desired to learn English speaking countries their native tongues than Spanish did at that time. He also made sure that all buildings and infrastructure were In English so that everyone could benefit from its use without feeling bound by cultural differences or lingo barriers which often developed between groups living within different regions at different times (i.e., Hispanics vs Anglo Americans). A post office was established in Hobsby on October 2, 1886 by Hiram Sells with mail service beginning on November 5th according to one account However only three parcels ever reached Hobsby despite being sent there daily! This indicates either low postage rates or very slow mail delivery due largely to unreliable road conditions which often prohibited travel much beyond Prescott Canyon outside of town limits! There are no records preserved anywhere related to this post office! It is interesting however that not all early Mormon pioneers used English as their primary communication medium- some spoke both languages fluently while others resorted primarily to Sign Language or sign language interpreter services throughout their stay in Utah Valley (later known as Mesa Verde) . Even though many people abandoned English during their time living within Indian reservations west of Albuquerque due mainlyto problems associated with racism towards non-European Americans - such as poor hygiene practices among those living near Quanah Parker's Creek - some Individuals such as Brigham Young retained some degree level understanding/usage of English even after moving away from Indian Reservation areas . Consequently Lowell Cushing found evidence via oral history interviews Conducted with various locals residing eastward OF Albuquerque&west OF Roswell NM concerning LDS missionary efforts among local Mescalero Apache Tribe members &anglos prior thereto ... SomeMescalero Apache tribe members even attended school taught by white teacher operated out side tribal jurisdictional boundaries As early 20th century Navajo students learned about white man’s ways through power struggles conducted between Navajos & Ute Mountain People etc... A few years later when Hopis began traveling thru [New Mexico] looking for new homestead sites they encountered Puebloan ruinspresumably attributable To earlier European exploration aborting any chance US government may have had developing Puebloan civilization closer TO AZ border
