Gun Parts History in Gallup, New Mexico has been a tradition in the community since before there were guns. The first firearms likely originated from Native Americans who used bows and arrows to hunt game. Over time, European settlers began bringing firearms into the area and began using them for protection and hunting. By 1868, guns had become common in Gallup and many of the early guns came from England. The early firearms in Gallup were made of wood and often broke down over time. In 1892, a group of men from Gallup formed a partnership to make new rifles out of metal. The company continued making firearms until 1911 when it merged with another company to form National Firearms Manufacturing Company (now Smith & Wesson). During this time period, gun production increased significantly as Colt introduced their Model 1903 rifle which became increasingly popular among ranchers and farmers in the area. Later on, other companies such as Winchester produced similar rifles within the Gunsmoke industry chain. In 1912, Gallup resident Manuel Gomez purchased an old revolver from a man named John White that he used for target practice. After some modifications, Gomez renamed his firearm the "Gomez Pistol" or simply "Gomez." This weapon quickly became well-known within the community due to its accuracy and shooting abilities. handguns continued to be produced by Gomez's business until it was bought by Western Arms Corp., also located in Gallup in 1951. At this point, handgun manufacturing stopped completely at Western Arms Corp.; however, part of their arsenal still remains today at Gonzales County Museum under exhibits related to 19th century firearm history in New Mexico

Gallup is a town in Bernalillo County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 1,551 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bernalillo County. The name "Gallup" comes from two of the original Pueblo people, who were also called Gallup and Gabriela (Gabriel). In 1781, José de la Garza y Costilla founded a rancho de carnes there with his brother-in-law Gabriel García Márquez. The town was founded in 1849 by the railroads as part of the Rancho Gallup Land Grant Program. The first permanent buildings were built in 1857 by ordnance engineers working for General James K. Polk's Army Corps of Engineers. On July 20, 1912, Gallup was named an American city by Mayor George Wickersham on account of its role as a center for trade and transportation in southeastern New Mexico Territory during that time period; it had been designated as such by act of Congress on April 3, 1911. As a result of being designated as an American city, Gallup became eligible for Federal funds to promote economic development through various means including cultural events and public meetings which would be open to all residents regardless of social class or economic background. These activities led to increased business activity and more civic engagement in the community over time; they also served to create pride among local citizens in their place within New Mexico Territory and across America regarding their role within society and government
