Theonal Cannon Company was founded in 1824 by Captain John C. Fremont and his brother-in-law, Amos Eaton, as a business venture to produce cannonball ammunition for the U.S. Army. The company's first cannon was fired at Albuquerque on July 4, 1824. Later that year, Captain Fremont met with Obadiah Stevens, a local rifleman from Gallup who had developed an improved muzzleloader called the Stevens Rifle. The two men decided to collaborate on developing new rounds for firearms, which became the basis of what would become known as artillery ammunition today. In 1830, Captain Fremont married Mrs. Stevens' sister-in-law Elizabeth Coffin; their marriage produced six children: three sons (Samuel Willard Coffin Jr., Richard Hutton Coffin and Cyrus Wheeler Coffin), and three daughters (Harriet Beecher Stowe, Maria Richardson Norton and Eleanor Roosevelt). In 1857, captain Fremont sold his interest in the Canon Company to Aiken & Sons Arms Co., a manufacturer of percussion weapons in England . That same year saw the introduction of the first modern cartridge – primers containing black powder instead of silver balls – into American arsenals . By 1861 pistols using this type of round had become standard issue throughoutthe Union army Aiken & Sons continued production until 1966 when it merged with Remington Arms Corporation . During that time production stopped at one plant but resumed at another plant near Reno , Nevada due to expanding manufacturing operations outside America Remington now produces all types of artillery rounds including armor Piercing Rounds for tanks and armored vehicles

Ammunition manufacturers and retailers have been located in the area since before there was a town in that location. The first store in Gallup opened in 1881. The current store is located on Pecos Street near Fourth Avenue. Gallup was founded by George Gallup and his wife Emma around 1881. They were looking for land to build a home on and found some land east of present-daygallup on what is now the south side of Pecos Street. The Gallums started selling guns and ammo from their home until they moved to town in 1886. In 1889, they built a store on Third Street which lasted until 1912 when it burned down. The current store was built in 1912 by Harry Hamerman and it has been family owned ever since. It is currently the largest retailer of ammo in Gallup with over 30,000 sq ft of floor space. The store also sells hunting supplies, golf equipment, camping supplies, local food items as well as fireworks products

Gallup had its start in 1887 as a small farming community on the east side of Grants Pass River. By 1912 it had developed into a busy railroad town with several stores and two post office buildings. The first Galluppoll was taken in 1920 and the first Gallup survey was taken in 1936. The towns growth continued through the years until it reached its peak around 1950 when it had 2,500 people living there. Since then, economic decline has set in and population has decreased to 1,600 today. Today much of what used to make Gallup an important center for trade and commerce now sits vacant or abandoned due toIBM's closure of their plant there in 2001 and other companies' closings throughout the 1990s and 2000s demographic changes that have affected most communities near Albuquerque such as those hereabouts which have seen very large declines both total population (from over 10K in 1960 to 4K by 2000) as well as percentages (from over 60% Hispanic/Latino residents to under 30% today). However some environmental groups continue to campaign for efforts towardsville revitalization including plans made by local officials recently for developing land adjacent to Old Town where once thriving businesses now sit empty because they are unable to compete with newer facilities located elsewhere within Albuquerque proper or beyond its boundaries- this despite having no connection whatsoever with any scientific research bearing upon village revitalization or even whether such activities might becarrying out any positive effects whatsoever given that such programs typically tend not only*to resultin heavier investments by developers but also often lead[]to additional congestion on already congested streets leading away from downtown areas]

From these words, it was determined that this location should be called Gallup because it had both a gallus (a type of bird) and a pueblo (a type of settlement). The first post office in Gallup was established in 1881, and until 1905, it was known as simply “Gallupsburg.” In 1907, an elementary school was built here and named after Mrs. Helen Latham Goodell (1863-1939), who donated land for the school. Mrs. Goodell also donated money to help support the school. A Tyson chicken farm was established here in 1948 by Drs. Elmer Dickey and Ira Wiman; however, this operation closed down within months due to high costs associated with raising chickens overseas). In 1959, construction began on what would become what is now the Gallups Museum which opened its doors to the public on October 1st, 1961. At that time, it was one of only three museums in New Mexico dedicated exclusively to American history – along with Pecos Folklife Park in Cottonwood Springs and Taos Mountain State Park near Alamogordo – making it one of America’s most significant historical landmarks."
