These include: - A $5 million investment from PuebloWest Bank which will create new homes and businesses within the boundaries of the town; - A major expansion of village square which will include more than 20 acres of parkland; - An investment from Forster Development Group which will create jobs onsite at two existing manufacturing plants within walking distance of Village Square; - A construction project that will add nearly 1,000 new housing units over five years via a mixture of private sector and government funding

By 1890, when New Mexico became a U.S. territory, there were over 100 residents living in Farmington with 30 businesses active in the town market economy including five banks and three grain elevators among others). The largest employer in town was the Midland Railroad Company which operated a depot and freight yards on Main Street between First Avenue and North Lamar Boulevard before it merged into Union Pacific Railroad in 1951. It was not until 1925 that Farmsville Road was built as an expressway connecting downtown with rural areas to the north and west across Taos County as well as Interstate 25/US 66/NM 6 highway east to Gallup City proper where it connected with US 95 through central Gallup Lake before terminating at I-25/US 66/NM 6 just south of present day Gallup City limits near White Sands Missile Range
