Farmington, New Mexico, is a city of over 100,000 people located in the Huachuca Mountains. The population was estimated to be over 150,000 in the 2010 census. Farming and ranching are the primary industries in Farmington. One of the earliest optical appliances made in Farmington was a crude pair of eyeglasses known as "The spectacles". These were invented by Samuel Morse and Alfred Vail in 1838 while working for Bell Labs. The first commercially successful pair of eyeglasses was developed by John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry with help from Professor George Eastman at Rochester Institute of Technology. The development of photography required an improved way to view images for printing or exhibition. In 1885, a group of men led by Cyrus McCormick developed an apparatus called the McCormick Camera which could take photosynthesis pictures using light energy from lightbulbs. This allowed photographers to capture images that could later be reproduced on paper or canvas without having tophotograph directly into sunlight. In 1916, George Eastman founded Eastman Kodak Company with three other engineers: Edwin Bauer, Willis Carrier and Charles Ransom (a man who had once patented a process for creating transparency from plastic). Kodak quickly became one of America's leading photo companies with its invention of photography film and products such as flashlights and camera lenses. In 1907, they purchased the rights to use German photographer Wilhelm Ziege's daguerreotype technology which gave them their first opportunityto make motion pictures celluloid films instead of glass plates which would have required expensive storage space and time to develop

The device used two lenses to capture images of objects in front of the camera. In 1890, Farmington installed its first electric streetcar system and began using Electricity as a form of transportation. This change not only helped to improve the town's economy but also made it possible for people to get around without having to take public transportation. Later that year, Farmington also became one of the first U.S. Towns to Install Telephone Service and By 1912 had over 100 subscribers!

The milling area became known as "The Cotton Belt" because of its productivity in producing cottonseed oil and cloth for export. In 1865, George Waddell founded an insurance company there which became one of the largest in New Mexico until it merged with other companies in 1906.

Farmington, New Mexico is a small town located in the US state of New Mexico. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albuquerque-Municipality. Farmington was founded in 1876 by farmers from Pennsylvania andettlement began on a salt lick about 3 miles east of the present-day town site. In 1878, Colonel George Armstrong Custer's cavalry camped nearby and ordered his troopers to eat the cattle that were grazing on the salt lick. The men who didn't want to get Sick or Weary came up withthe naming for their new settlement which was chosen as "Farmington" after General George Armstrong Custer's home state of Illinois. The first store opened in 1879 and later two churches were built; one Greek Revival style, and one Gothic Revival style. In 1886, James Wickersham erected a sawmill that became one of Farmington's most important businesses. Wickersham also owned an opera house which he used for shows such as David Garrick's "The Beaux Arts". A post office called Farmington was established in 1887 and remained in operation until 1912.During World War II, many farm families decided to move away from farming due to hard times during the Great Depression but theyreturned when things improved somewhat afterwards due to high demand for military goods caused by America's entry into WWII In 1951, FarmINGTON incorporated as a municipality within Albuquerque Today, Farmington is still enjoying its high quality schools - including USD 259th Street High School - while its arts community offers opportunities for music groups ( choirs and brass bands ), visual artists ( painters/ sculptors ), students in dance classes , poets/writers/authors , theatrical productions
Farmington was founded by the Donner Party in 1848. The party was looking for a new home after leaving California. They arrived in what is now Farmington on May 3, 1848. The town was named for the Farmington River which they found near their destination. The first post office was established in Farmington on May 9, 1848. In 1850, the population of FarmINGTON reached 100 people and in 1865 it had grown to over 500 people. The first school in FarmINGTON opened in October of 1850. It closed in 1861 due to lack of students and equipment. The first business opening were a bakery and grocery store called "The Grapes" operated by Mr. Wm Dickey from December 7, 1850-January 1, 1851. From January 2-June 15, 1851, Mr. George Sturdivant ran a dry goods store called "New Mexico Grocery". On September 12th of that year Mrs Jno Haggerty opened her own restaurant called "The Fountain". On November 10th of 1850 the first state census show that there were 95 residents living in FarmINGTON with an average household income of $40 per month/person (1¢ per capita). By 1870 the population had increased to 350 people with an average household income of $75 per month/person (3¢ per capita). During this time period farming became more important than ever as New Mexicans began migrating away from California searching for opportunities to farm their land and build careers within the new country
