Farmington, New Mexico is a small town located in Pinal County, Arizona. The population was 1,821 at the 2010 census. The community is named after George Farmington, who donated land to the town in 1881. The Mills Department Store and two restaurants are among the few businesses in Farmington. It is home to the National Guard's 9th Infantry Regiment and the United Methodist Church of Phoenixville. The first permanent settlers in Farmington were farmers from Illinois who arrived in 1881. They founded a village on their property and named itafter themselves, George Farmington Village. In 1912, however, they moved out of state because of a lack of water resources and returned to India Hill Ranch where they operated a cattle ranch for many years before selling it to John Hance in 1938. Withdrawn from agriculture due to scarce resources, Hance turned his attention to real estate development which led him to purchase 640 acres (248 hectares) near what is now the center of Farmington in 1949. He named it Hance Park after himself and his brother-in-law General Edwin Ladd who served as US Army Commanding Officer during World War II and played an important role with creating military installations around Phoenixville including Fort Apache Indian School; Camp Verde; White Sands Missile Range; and Peoria Air Defense Station. Hance's park continued expanding until its eventual annexation by neighboring Chandler in 1978 which left only 0 hectare (0 .2 acre) remaining undeveloped adjacent to Interstate 10 east of Main Street between First Avenue NE and Webb Road NE for commercial use as Chandler's new downtown district following Mesa's incorporation into Phoenix metropolitan area that year After several years of planning by city planners under then Mayor Phil Hartman, construction began on what would become known as "The City Park" becoming operational on October 3rd, 1984 with a dedication ceremony by future Mayor Rick Warren attended by President Ronald Reagan On October 6th 1990 when newly elected Governor Bill Richardson dedicated Farmer Park following its reopening following extensive renovation project funded largely by donations from individuals including Herbst family patriarch Fritz Herbst During that time there was also construction underway on nearby University Hills shopping mall which would later be called Regent Mall

Farmington was founded in 1885 by settlers from Massachusetts and Connecticut. The first post office was established in 1886. The town became a city on November 3, 1907 when it merged with neighboring Pecos City to form the former Pecos Union City Corporation. On July 1, 1912, Farmington proper and its eastern suburb of Lyons merged into the larger city of Albuquerque. On December 13, 1951, Farmington reverted to its original name - Farmington.[2][3] In 2000s, Farmsington experienced growth as an agricultural center with cattle and hogs being raised as well as tourism opportunities for those who visit the area for hiking or fishing.[4]
