In 1892, while Deming was still a small town, two men named John and George Stephenson invented the first earmuffs. These earmuffs were made of cloth and had a band to keep them in place. The Earmuff Company was founded in Deming by these two men. The Earmuff Company became one of the most successful companies in the country for their earmuffs. They also developed other products such as headsets and noise barriers. The Earmuff Company was bought by American National who moved their production to Shreveport, Louisiana in 1958. However, American National continued to produce earmuffs until they were discontinued in 1984. In 1992, the Earmuff Company’s factory building was destroyed by a fire that started when an employee left his workstation without saving his lunch money. The range became very popular and soon there were many other shooting ranges throughout the town. By 1907, Deming had become an important center for firearms manufacturing and training.
Deming, New Mexico is a small town located in the mountainous region of central New Mexico. The community was founded in 1916 by Deming native George H. Deming and his wife, Eva. Today, the population of Deming is approximately 1,500 people and it is the location of the George H. Deming Museum and Park. The village was named after Mr. and Mrs. Deming's father-in-law, who had died suddenly in 1915 while serving in World War I. The first permanent settlers in what would become Deming were three men from Nebraska: John Wetherbee, Ed Weiser and Harry Bayless. They arrived at what is now called Main Street on July 10th, 1916. At that time there were only two buildings in town - a Methodist Church (built 1917) and a School (opened 1912). A post office was established at this location on September 9th, 1916; but it was not until 1927 that an agricultural store opened on Main Street which continued to be used until 1954 when it became part of the newly formed Village Development Corporation (VDC). TheVillage Development Corporation began developing the land around downtown Deming into residential neighborhoods which eventually became known as "The Villages." In 1951, VDC purchased all of the remaining land within downtown for $2 per acre - making it one of the mostPurchaseable Communities in America at that time. In 1978 – after 50 years of dedication to development – VDC merged with other village development corporations throughout New Mexico to form ThedemingsouthCommunity Development Organization (TSCDO). Today TSDO oversees over 370 properties across 20 municipalities including demingsouth High School & Stadiums as well as 3 general hospitals including Regional Medical Center Albuquerque & Saint Joseph Hospital Santa Fe Springs Today’sDemining Community has come many changes since its inception back in 1916….. One change has been suburbanization with more people living outside of town limits becoming residents instead of staying put to work their businesses…. Another change may be seen soon with construction projects starting up again throughout Town center district…….. . finally another change can be seen when young families move into older homes being built along side schools or churches…. All these changes are happening because our community has always been about building relationships between citizens/residents/businesses……………..

Deming is a city in New Mexico, United States. It is the seat of Cochiti County and the largest municipality in that county. The population was 30,814 at the 2010 census, making it the second-largest city in New Mexico after Santa Fe. The first European settlers in what is now Deming were Frenchmen who arrived during the Mexican–American War (1846-48). They built Fort Union on Rio Grande de San Miguel and named their town for Pierre Deming, an officer with the French forces. In 1871, when New Mexico became a U.S. state, Deming became its capital; it remains so today. In 1912, five years after Albuquerque was founded as a mining town on opposite banks of the Rio Grande near present day Santo Domingo (now Ciudad Juárez), two men named Gustavus Waddell and Tom King developed a salt mine at Pecos River northwest of Deming which they called "Waddells Copper Mine." After many extensions to its original boundaries - including Ennis and Terlingua - Pecos River eventually became Deming's most important river port and served as both its economic base and its political center until around 1920 when shipping stopped entirely due toWorld War I restrictions on American cargoes entering Europe via that route. In 1932, Harry Chandler opened what is considered to be one of the earliest modern convenience stores in America when he opened his First National Bank branch at 12th Avenue Northeast & Park Road Southwest in what is nowdemming downtown square. This store quickly grew into one of New Mexicans' most familiar symbols from early days until it closed operations several decades ago but left behind abundant evidence of its presence such as artifacts from various stages of Chandler's operation such as cash registers with "First National Bank" written upon them still inside today!
