Hanks had married an Natives woman named Martha Rosselló de la Garza y Valdez and settled down in Taos Canyon near present day Deming while he awaited word from San Francisco that he would not be arrested as an enemy combatant following his victory at Chapultepec against Mexican forces on October 19th of that year! When news arrived back home confirming his release after just eight days imprisonment (!), Hanks returned to Albuquerque where he set up shop as a storekeeper before dying at age seventy-four years old on February 16th of 1913. His wife Martha did not return to her home until 1865 when she married José María Herrera y Pacheco (1820-1907) also from Taos Canyon - thus becoming the first indigenous woman ever married to an Anglo-American man within Ute Indian territory! They moved into their own house which still stands today across from Town Hall off CR 9058 A1A - one mile north eastof present day School Rd.. Their three children – José María Jr., Edmondo María Herrera y Pacheco III (born c 1840), Maria Margarita Herrera y Pacheco de la Garza (born c 1850) – all grew up here too eventually moving away during times Of California Gold Rush etc.. It wasn't until 1905 when ranchers started arriving seeking water rights along the riverbanks south of town that serious development began; however at this time most residents still lived close to their farmssteads or ranch homes making transportation very difficult indeed! In 1915 John Cook opened up his grocery store across from Main Street corner FM 5553 Anaconda Rd; however due largely to lack thereof capital some local merchants decided it wouldn't make much sense whatsoever to expand business beyond what they currently had... so no real growth took place until World War II when post office services arrived courtesy Army Air Forces Base Alamogordo & US 66 shifted operations hitherward !! However again due primarily theretofore unavailability cf capital many locals chose instead To stay put & enjoy their quiet little community lifestyle!"
