Clovis is a small town located in the county of Bernalillo in New Mexico. It is known for its prehistoric artifacts, which have been found at the nearby site of Clovisinnacle. The town was founded in 1876 by Methodist missionaries and ranchers. As of 2010, it had a population of approximately 960 people. The earliest evidence for human activity in the area comes from Paleo-Indian peoples who lived on the San Juan River basin about 12,000 years ago. The military built several airfields around Clovis so that bomber pilots could fly over the area during campaigns such as Operation Overlord (1939-1945). After the war ended, many local families lost their homes and businesses due to difficult economic times. Since 2000, interest has grown in exploring ancient sites throughout New Mexico due to discoveries made at nearby Pueblo Viejo archaeological site which contains Paleo-Indian ruins dating back 9500 years old!

Clovis is a small town in New Mexico and is known for its Native American history. The first Europeans to visit Clovis were French traders in the early 1800s, and they named the settlement after Charles-Louis Clouet, Sieur de La Vallière. In 1827, the Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portolà explored the area and found that it was occupied by the Taos Pueblo tribe of Native Americans. He named the settlement San José de los Caballeros (St. Joseph's Place). The town was founded on July 16, 1831, when Captain John Cushing of the United States Exploring Expedition discovered gold near Clovis. The discovery led to an influx of new settlers, and by 1840 Clovis had a population of 350 people. The town was originally built around a plaza or square, which served as the center of town. Today, there are only a few remaining buildings from original settlements dating back to 1831-1833. The most notable building from this era is San Miguel Chapel (also known as Old Mission San Miguel), which is located at 3222 E 1st Ave., just east of downtown Clovis. It was built in 1832 as part of a series of mission chapels constructed in what is now New Mexico Territory by Franciscans under Spanish missionary Juan Bautista Nunez y Planes. In 1886, during Mexican–American War hostilities between America and Mexico began, local citizens joined forces with US cavalry troops under General Tomás Romero to drive Mexican soldiers out of their towns and villages in central New Mexico Territory; these actions helped swell support for American efforts against Mexican rule throughout much of western New Mexico Territory following Battle For Albuquerque on August 22nd that year. Santa Fe had been besieged since May 8th; on June 7th General Romer ordered his troops into action along Cache Creek Road near present day Gallup but did not march on Santa Fe until July 15th due to fears that reinforcements might be needed at Fort Sumner should AMERICAN forces reach Albuquerque first On October 10th 1861 Governor Don Carlos Ortiz issued Order No._ 966 declaring martial law throughout much of central New Mexico Territory following clashes between Confederate sympathizers and Unionists in Salt River Valley region; this order caused great alarm within local communities who worried about potential military occupation or even annexation by America if war continued unabated On November 5th 1862 Major General Winfield Scott arrived at Fort Sumner with orders to confine all rail traffic within 100 miles northward including all goods destined for California so as not to create another conflict between America’s two major slaveholding countries Army engineers quickly improved upon old Milliken & Hastings toll roaduniax construction project begun earlier that year which linked bothfortresses together forming one massive combined defence system straddling both Colorado & Arizona Rivers

By 1800, it had a population of around 1000 people. In 1846, during the Mexican-American War, Clovis was one of several towns within the Mexican state of Baja California that sided with Mexico against United States forces. After the war, many residents fled to Chihuahua City in southernMexico for protection. As part of that effort, some individuals from Clovis also traveled north and established themselves as farmers there. By 1900, only a few buildings remained standing in Clovis; all other remains were destroyed by fire or vandalism over time.
