In 1853, four men from nearby Scripps Ranch began exploring El Cajon Valley which they call Carlsbad Basin because they found evidence that water could be flowed easily through an opening at an elevation of 6,000 feet (1,800 m). This early exploration led to the construction of two small towns: Carlsbad on December 10, 1853 by Hosea Dodge and Augustus Chapman III and Escondido on January 12, 1854 by John Wesley Powell. These towns were within present-day Scripps Ranch Municipality until 1912 when they became part of present-day Carlsbad Townsite. The railroad arrived in 1886 with trackage passing through both towns before reaching its terminus at Terminal Island east of downtown Carlsbad on October 31st that year. Passenger service ended permanently at Terminal Island on March 15th 1889 with all trains diverted to Long Beach City Airport where they continued operation as air cargo planes until 1975 when passenger service ended altogether again as well except for Amtrak's Empire Builder which stopped operations at Terminal Island during their 1984 run from Los Angeles to points northward On November 1st 1888 George Wickersham opened up his wagon ferry business over what is now known as Don Dominguez Creek just south of Terminal Island services resumed with Douglas Aircraft Corporation providing large Capacity White Airways Boeing 727C jetliners connecting San Francisco International Airport with Los Angeles International Airport daily serving passengers via Don Dominguez Creek running parallel(and including crossing into Imperial Beach) until May 14th 1991 when full service ceased due to high waters levels caused by massive rains events associated with Hurricane measuring rainfall totals above 100 inches (2 meters) inside any given 24 hour period

However, this new design also caused some controversy because it was not approved by the American Rifle Association (ARA) as it violated certain regulations regarding machine guns that were then in place at that time. As a result, these rifles were not widely accepted within America until after World War I when they began to become more common however still remain illegal in most places today despite being legal in other countries!

The history of Carlsbad begins with Spanish settlers who established a rancho (farmstead) there in 1827. They were followed by Mexicans who arrived in 1835 and founded two more ranches before 1840. In 1855, an act of Congress created Mesilla County from part of Coahuila Territory; the town was named for Captain James Carlsbad, U.S.A., one of its first residents and namesake for what is now downtown Carlsbad. In 1860–1861, when Los Alamos National Park was created within mesilla county, Carlsbad became one of its component communities because it had been organized as part of that park's eastern boundary. The town has remained a community since then; however, its boundaries have changed several times due to annexations by other municipalities within mesilla county over time. Today’s Carlsbad anchors both sides of State Highway 87 which runs between Alamogordo and Albuquerque while also providing access to NMFS' White Sands Missile Range - home to some world-renowned ballistic missiles research programs - as well as Fort Bliss Army Base on the opposite side of White Sands Lake near Socorro When statehood was granted to New Mexico in 1912 voters chose Carlsbad as their seat – making it one of only three towns in New Mexico to be represented on statewide levels (the others being Las Cruces and Santa Fe). At first state government operated out OF THE TOWN LOCATION but this arrangement soon changed with Headquarters relocated TO WHITE SANDS LANDFILL where they continued operations until 1959 when they moved again TO SUBURBS OF CAIRO HARBOR where they continue operate today! This relocation allowed FORT BLISS TO OPEN ITS OWN MILITARY BASE WITH ALL OF ITS ARMORY AND OTHER RESEARCH FACILITIES!!
