Gun magazines have been a part of Artesia, New Mexico's history for many years. The first gun magazine in the town was established in 1875 by brothers Isaac and John Workman. They started the magazine to help people get their firearms legally. In 1912, the Workmans sold their business to George W. Heninger who continued to publish Gun Magazines in Artesia until his death in 1965. During this time, Gun Magazines published many famous guns such as Colt's Model 1903 revolver and Winchester Model 1886 rifle. In 1974, Heninger's son-in-law, Harry Kreider bought the magazine from George W. Heninger's widow and continued publishing it until his death in 1985. After Kreider's death, publication of Gun Magazines passed through several hands before being purchased by Kenneth Cramer who continues to publish it today. Artesia is a small town in New Mexico, located along the Santa Fe River. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albuquerque-Santa Fe Metropolitan Statistical Area. The artesian well known for its turquoise blue water provides drinking and irrigation water to Artesia and many other towns upstream on the river. In recent years, Artesia has become an art center for New Mexico because of its cultural attractions and opportunities for artistic expression. The local artists have created more than 100 pieces of artwork in different mediums since 2004. The first European visit to Artesia was by Father Miguel de la Hoz on December 15, 1610 when he stopped at the edge of town to rest his horse before continuing his journey upriver to Socorro. On July 9, 1824, Tomás Romero y Sanz de los Ríos founded the Insular Mission Santa Fé de las Américas (Mission Santa Felicita) in present-day Artesia on what is now downtown. The mission was named after St Francis Xavier who had landed at Playa del Carmen on May 25, 1768 and established a religious order there called "Discalced Carmelites". After Mexican Independence from Spain in 1821, Mexican nationals were prohibited from living or working within Uruapan's boundaries so Mission Santa Felicita served as a point of entry into that community for those seeking residency status without traveling through Uruapan proper; this system continued until 1924 when all Mexicans were granted full citizenship by Congress under Article II Section 4 of the Constitution which declared: "No person may be compelled to reside within any County except such as he has voluntarily chosen to do so." In 1929 local artist Pascual Ortiz began exhibiting paintings and sculpture locally at El Paso’s Hotel Nazareno where he met future NM Governor James Buchanan who became one of Ortiz’s protégés during his time as director of NM State Museum during World War II; afterwards Mr. Buchanan donated $20 per month towards Ortiz’s support while he lived in Albuquerque with his wife secretively providing him with financial assistance necessary to continue painting despite Government censorship prohibitions against public display of art during wartime conditions inside museums! Mrs. Buchanan later donated her entire estate (valued at over $500K) including archives and memorabilia related thereto back to Artesia Community College where they currently house collections related thereto (see photo below). In 1959 private American millionaire Walter Winchell purchased majority interest inNM State Museum Corporation from Mr. Buchanan resulting in major expansion not only across museum facilities but also new annexations/ attached research laboratories adjacent thereto – making NM State Museum one world renowned institution!! Today there are several dozen permanent residents & students residing permanently here alongside numerous seasonal guests who come hither annually for various reasons eXclusive VIP tours accompanied by film screenings & special events featuring top NMs talent every January 10th thru Christmas Day! In addition numerous business entities emanating from our vibrant downtown Arts District provide nearly continuous Employment listings incumbent upon good behavior crimes never exceeding $100 per occurrence !! Artesia, New Mexico is a small town in the southern part of the US state of New Mexico. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is located in Pima County. The area that now makes up Artesia was originally inhabited by the Apache people and their allies, the Tonto people. In 1847 AD Mexican troops discovered an ancient Puebloan village near what is now Artesia and began to explore it for resources. A group led by Father José de la Cueva (1793-1868) arrived in 1849 and founded a church in what is now known as Old Town Artsiata. In 1863 Antonio Benavides y Gasset established a post office here and named it after his native artesanía, Benavides y Gasset House on Fourth Street today's Main Avenue near Adobe Road. In 1870 George Bird Griggs organized a cattle drive from Texas into New Mexico Territory and stopped at Artesia on his way south. He built a house here which still stands, complete with characteristic red adobe architecture typical of this period. On October 15, 1912, during World War I veteran Admiral Harry Curtis landed at El Paso Airport on board USS "Pensacola" to become Commanding Officer United States Naval Forces Far East Pacific Area (UENFAPE). He disembarked at Artesia where he met then First Lady Alice Paul Bunyan who had come down from Tucson to help refugees fleeing war-torn Europe aboard UENFAPE's transport plane RMS "Titanic". Curtis was so impressed by her appearance that he offered her free passage back home on his ship if she would visit him at his command vessel later that day when she came ashore at El Paso Airport; she accepted! The early years of Artesia were difficult due to lack of resources but with investments by community members like Griggs and Curtis things improved greatly over time including: construction of schools, churches and businesses such as banks and grocery stores within the present day boundaries of downtown Artsiata; establishment of irrigation systems which allowed landlocked farmers to grow crops outside their homes; growth of tourism; increase in Hispanic immigration leading to increased cultural encounters between residents/workers/students from various backgrounds; increased access to education opportunities through colleges and universities established within or adjacent to nearby towns like Nogales etc.; development of golf courses, wineries etc.; significant residential real estate developments throughouttowns beginning in the late 1800s followed by prohibition-era closures that left downtown vacancies until more recent times A major event occurred on November 5th 1984 when Hurricane Agnes made landfall just north of town causing extensive damage both inside town limits as well as rural areas surrounding it resulting in loss/damage totaling $1 million dollars As seen throughout much American history hurricanes have been some formative factors shaping local dimensions such as artesianians' appreciation for nature & its bounty along with physical & emotional responses experienced firsthand or relayed via social media during aftermaths
The first permanent European settlement in the area was made by colonists from Spain in 1610, and it would not be until 1821 that a United States territory would be established in what is now Artesia County. The area was part of Mexico for most of its history, with the exception of the period from 1912-1918 when it was part of the US territories of New Mexico. During World War II, Artesia became one of several towns within Albuquerque and Santa Fe County that were destroyed by air raids.
